Both Him and His wife were devotees of Lord Krishna. One day the frustrated, disappointed and hungry wife told her husband who was writing commentary on Bhagavad Gita: " you always tell me that if we have faith in Bhgavaan, he will take care of our needs. You said Bhagavd Gita assures that Bhagavaan even carry things personally for His needy devotees. Now we have been deprived of food for more than three days and where is Bhgavaan's hands carrying some form of food for us? " When Arjunaacharya heard this, he also felt what his wife said was true. Why is Bhagavaan so reluctant to help us when we have surrendered ourselves to Him? He was writing commentary for the the same sloka in Gita his wife was talking about: ananya: chintayanto maam yae janaa: paryupaasate teshaam nitya abhiyuktaanaam yogakshemam vahaami aham So he decided to scratch the word " vahami " and wrote " karomi " there. " Why should Lord do by Himself. ( " vahami " means carry personally). He will not do that by Himself. He is all powerful and if He desires, He probably will get it done. " This thought process prompted him to replace " vahami " with " karomi " . After finishing that sloka, he went out to look for some food. Soon after he left , two beautiful boys came to their house. They had brought a head load of different foods and gave it to Arjunachaarya's wife. They were in a hurry to leave and they told her that her husband Arjunaacharya sent that food and they had to leave before he came back. They said they were afraid that Arjunaachaarya would beat them again! His wife did not understand anything. Why her husband sent this food through these boys? And now the boys are saying that they are afraid of his beatings. With out giving a chance to talk further, the boys ran and disappeared. After a few minutes Arjunaachaarya came with empty hands and saw his wife cooking all the delicious vegetables, rice and dal. His wife told about the two boys and how they were afraid of his beatings. Arjunaacharrya asked details of the boys. His wife said : " one was a dark boy and another one was a fair skinned boy. The dark boy showed a mark of the beatings on his thigh and told her that it was the mark of your beatings. I never thought you would do this to anybody especially to such beautiful and well mannered boys like them. " Suddenly Arjunaachaarya got the message and went and checked His book where He had scratched and wrote " karomi " . To his surprise he saw that " karomi " was again scratched and there " vahami " was written. His wife does not know Sanskrit to change it back to " vahami " . So he exactly knew who rewrote the word and who brought food carrying by Himself to His wife !. It was none other than Lord Krishna and Balarama! His wife had the good fortune to see Bahgavaan with her eyes and he missed that golden chance. He chanted along with His wife: Bhaktha Vathsala! Deenabandho! paalaya maam! paalaya maam! paalaya maam! I was so impressed with savitriji's story. I was going to reply to it early today. But some how I thought I will write later. When you have a true faith, lord will be definitey there to protect you. Now we have been deprived of food for more than three days and where is Bhgavaan's hands carrying some form of food for us? " When Arjunaacharya heard this, he also felt what his wife said was true. Why is Bhagavaan so reluctant to help us when we have surrendered ourselves to Him? He was writing commentary for the the same sloka in Gita his wife was talking about: ananya: chintayanto maam yae janaa: paryupaasate teshaam nitya abhiyuktaanaam yogakshemam vahaami aham So he decided to scratch the word " vahami " and wrote " karomi " there. " Why should Lord do by Himself. ( " vahami " means carry personally). He will not do that by Himself. He is all powerful and if He desires, He probably will get it done. " This thought process prompted him to replace " vahami " with " karomi " . After finishing that sloka, he went out to look for some food. Soon after he left , two beautiful boys came to their house. They had brought a head load of different foods and gave it to Arjunachaarya's wife. They were in a hurry to leave and they told her that her husband Arjunaacharya sent that food and they had to leave before he came back. They said they were afraid that Arjunaachaarya would beat them again! His wife did not understand anything. Why her husband sent this food through these boys? And now the boys are saying that they are afraid of his beatings. With out giving a chance to talk further, the boys ran and disappeared. After a few minutes Arjunaachaarya came with empty hands and saw his wife cooking all the delicious vegetables, rice and dal. His wife told about the two boys and how they were afraid of his beatings. Arjunaacharrya asked details of the boys. His wife said : " one was a dark boy and another one was a fair skinned boy. The dark boy showed a mark of the beatings on his thigh and told her that it was the mark of your beatings. I never thought you would do this to anybody especially to such beautiful and well mannered boys like them. " Suddenly Arjunaachaarya got the message and went and checked His book where He had scratched and wrote " karomi " . To his surprise he saw that " karomi " was again scratched and there " vahami " was written. His wife does not know Sanskrit to change it back to " vahami " . So he exactly knew who rewrote the word and who brought food carrying by Himself to His wife !. It was none other than Lord Krishna and Balarama! His wife had the good fortune to see Bahgavaan with her eyes and he missed that golden chance. He chanted along with His wife: Bhaktha Vathsala! Deenabandho! paalaya maam! paalaya maam! paalaya maam! I like this story very much as well, and I do remember seeing another version of it. Your version came to my mind when I was reading this one but I just could not remember where I saw it or who posted it :-) Now you have removed that cobweb in my mind. The Lord will always take care of His faithful devotees, in whatever way He deems best for us and our spiritual welfare.
