thejo asrjatha-Brahman created

fire. The first element created is known to be aakaasa then wind, then fire

etc. In that case how can fire be the first element created? It is not said

that fire is the first that was created but it is mentioned because fire is the

first perceptible element and the creation of vayu and aakaasa before that is

understood as this is not the passage which describes the creation but the

purpose is only to show that everything came from Brahman.

aikshatha –that fire willed, bahusyaam prajayeya, I will become many

, thath apaH asrjatha- the fire

created water.

 

The doubt as to how water can come from fire when

it is seen that the two are opposed to

each other as the fire dries up water and the water quenches fire, is explained

as follows:

yathra kva cha Sochathi svedhathi vaa purushaH- Therefore whenever

a man , purushaH, grieves , sheds

tears, Sochathi, or sweats, svedhathi , it could be seen that the

water is produced by heat, that is fire.

 

The next doubt may be that how fire which has no sentience can

will? This is answered by stating that it is only the Brahman which is the self

of fire that willed.

 

apaH is the accusative of aapaH meaning water which is a neuter noun like thejaH but always in plural

aikshantha bahvaH syaama prajaayemahi ithi. thaaH annam asrjantha

 

that water willed to become many and created food.

 

thaaH

aapaH- that water, as the noun aapaH is plural the plural form is used

through out but it means only water and not waters.

 

aikshantha

bahu syaama prajaayemahi- I will

become many and

 

thaaH annam asrajantha- it created food. Here the word food stands for prthivee , the earth the last

element of creation, because food comes from the earth.

yathra kva cha varshathi thadheva bhooyishtam annam bhavathi thath aDhi adhbhyaH

eva anaadhyam jaayathe

 

thasmaath

yathra kva cha varshathi- Therefore wherever there is rain , thath bhooyishTam annam bhavathi-there grows

abundant food.

 

thath adhbyaH eva annaaadhyam aDhijaayathe- Therefore the food for eating, , annaadhyam,

aDgijaayathe –is produced adhbhyaH

eva – only from water.

 

This is quite obvious and need no explanation. Then

the father goes on about the classification of all beings in general
