Dear all,

How can we define the word " inn " ? It is a house where travellers are fed and lodged or a hotel providing overnight or a few nights lodging for travelers.  Now let us concentrate on the below conversation.

An enlightened soul visited the palace of a rich King for Biksha. He requested permission for King's darshan and King allowed him to meet at the beautifully decorated guest room. He was received there by the King himself. King did namaskaar and asked the sage how he could help him.

Sage said: " Maharaja, the only thing I need is a place to sleep in this INN of yours. " King said: " Guro, I am sorry, this is not an INN, this is my palace. "

Sage: " Maharaja, who owns this palace? "

King thought that it was a strange question to come from a sage who just wants to sleep one night in his palace. But he replied: " Guro, originally my grand father owned it and when he died, my father lived here. Now my father died and I am living here. "

Sage: " When you die, who will live here? "

King: " Guro, I am surprised that you are asking this silly question. But Guro, my son will be living here and before you ask, let me say that when he is no more my grandson will live here. "

Sage: So this is a place where souls covered in a body live for a short time and move on to continue their journey. Maharaja, is not that called an INN? Does'nt it match the definition of an INN?

Mhaaraja was a very intelligent person and he got the deep meaning of Guru's words. He did namaskaar again and showed a comfortable room in his INN for the sage to rest.

May God bless us to discrminate between what is transient and what is eternal and guide us through the right direction!

Regards and prayers

Savitri
