Guest guest
Dear Shri. Vekatakrishnan, Namaskarams. This has reference to your above captioned posting in the US Brahmins' group where I am also a member. As a member of many , I would like to exchange some thoughts which have cropped up in the Guruvayoor group regarding the disregard we humans are showing towards animals in general, and cows and elephants in particular. People sell away the male calves to butchers and use a " Vaikkol Kannukutty " to show to the cow and milk maximum they can, after giving hormone injections. I have seen with my own eyes in Madras, the way milkmen used to bring the cows to the door, milk them using the hay calf and give the milk to buyers. I have seen cows shedding tears when the hay calf is shown to it. And once the milking is over, they turn the cows on the roads to the mercy of vehicles plying on the roads and to eat all sorts of garbage including plastic bags. After the cow crosses the milch age, they sell it to the butchers at whatever price they can get. What an injustice done to the animal which we Hindus consider as sacred! Elephants are ill treated by mahouts, painfully hit them with made to beg in places like Ranganathan Street in Madras which I have seen myself. Cows are transported to slaughter houses in lorries tieing them closely without possibility of any movement, even their horns are tied together to avoid movement. Is there any limit to man's cruelty? I request to suggest/forward to us whatever methods are discussed about in your meeting so that we can jointly take action or make representation to the relevant authorities. Is it not possible to get the Animal Welfare Board's attention and bring about legislation to curb these mal-practices? Regards K.V. Gopalakrishnan. Guest guest
Dear Bhaskaranji, Radhe Krishna! Thank you very much for the kind response. Go-matha is the form of Mother Earth which we are worshipping. If we offend a cow, it is equivalent to offending Mother Earth. When Mother Earth is angry, she withdraws all natural resources from the view of the human beings and this is what is happening today. Even the water we drink is polluted--we ourselves are the cause for this situation, no doubt. When I see like-minded people, it is my habit to join them with whatever little bit I can do. so when I saw this mail from this gentleman, I thought a priliminary approach may be beneficial to both. Hope something good comes out of this association. Have we made any progress in the endeavour you put forward? Have you started the new group which you suggested last time? Warmest regards KVG.
