Guest guest
Dear Bhaskaran Nair, Thanks a lot for attaching the Easwara Prardhana which I have been looking for for quite some time. I still remember reciting this poem in Govt. School in Kottayam while doing my II std. in 1940s. Though I had forgotten the words of the poem, the message and meaning were embedded in my mind. A beautiful prayer and secular too for the modern times. Thanks again Sivasubranmani--- On Tue, 3/11/09, NBhaskaran Nair <nbnair2000 wrote: NBhaskaran Nair <nbnair2000[Guruvayur] Satyam Paranjeedan Shakti Taran - Entu Tamasam Krishna [1 Attachment]Guruvayur Date: Tuesday, 3 November, 2009, 1:35 PM Satyam Paranjeedan Shakti Taran - Entu Thamasam Krishnaa … HARI AUM The attached File is a beautiful Eeswara Prardhan we used to sing in our schools in Travancore State in the pre-independent era – 1940s. As children we never understood the depth of its profound significance ever in our every day life, for almost everybody. Not only that: we used to wonder “Why should one need courage/strength to say the truth? Of course, to lie one needs a lot of courageâ€. But now, after facing the realities in life for over seven decades, I can fully appreciate the wisdom of Mahakavi Pandalam Kerala Varma, its author, in each and every line of it. We need a lot of courage to speak out our heart with out fear or favour. Here I don’t mean the Shakti to speak out against the bootleggers there down the street. For that the Shakti needed may be the CHAIR of a minister in-charge of the concerned portfolio. Or else (until you get that Shakti) it is simply foolishness to speak out truth there. Here, through the lines of this prayer “to give strength to speak out the truth†the Mahakavi is perhaps also cautioning: “Before speaking out the truth please ensure you have already got the Shakti required for the sameâ€. However, even for very mundane things we often refrain from expressing our frank opinion for fear of offending some body, nay for fear of loosing their favour or just their “impression†about us! This is the reason we always follow the oft beaten track – the least resistant path – for fear of this or that – many times just imaginary. Why this fear? For a real Bhakt, of course there is no fear, whatsoever! But even for ordinaries like me, there will be many areas and situations where the strength Kannan had already given me is sufficient to speak out the TRUTH. And there it is our DUTY to speak out the TRUTH – our HEART. If we still refrain from doing it, we are totally ignoring our DUTY, ignoring Gita II-47. When we discus about: The cruelty behind the Mayilpeeli we offer to our Kannan, The cruelty and exploitation of the Go-Mathas in Kanna’s own Guruvayur Gokulam, or The cruelty and undesirability of enslaving Elephants for our prayers and poojas, in Kanna’s Punnathur Kota, many of our fellow devotees express their concerns very vehemently in personal emails, but there are only a few who bother to say a word in the open, even in our Forum - Guruvayur . So, with due apologies to Irayimman Thampi, let us pray to our Kannan: Satyam Paranjeedaan Shakti Taran – Entu Tamasam Krishna … Regards to all my fellow devotees. Urs affly NB Nair. Your mail brought mostalgic memories of my school days at Mavelikara, where we used to stand in prayer and chat this stotram, followed by " വഞàµà´šà´¿à´àµ‚മി പതേ ചിരം , സനàµà´šà´¿à´¤à´¾à´à´‚ ജയികàµà´•àµ†à´£à´‚ " etc. Very many thanks for sending it.
