Seeing him flying, Th demoness

named Simhika who can assume any form as she wished, thught thus, increasing in

size.

the Chaayagraahi, of great power

without any doubt. Knowing her rigtly as Simhika the wise Hanuman grew his

great body in size like the cloud in rainy season.

now and a big being has been killed by you. Accomplish the task wished by you well, oh best of monkeys.

DhrthiH dhrshtih mathiH dhaakshyam sa

karmasu na

seedhathi

 

The One in whom these four

qualities are found as in you, the king of monkeys, courage, a good vision,

wisdom and skill , he will not fail in his task.

 

Yasya thu- in whom indeed

are

 

ethaani chathvaari- these four

 

DhrthiH- courage,

 

dhrshtiH- vision meening

proper perception

 

mathiH- wisdom

 

dhaakshyam- dexterity

 

yaThaa –as

 

thava- in you

vaanerendra- Oh king of

monkeys,

na seedhathi- does not fail, Seedh

means to sink down (into despair)

jagaama aakaasam aaviSya

pannagaasanavath kapiH

 

Thus honoured by them who were honourable

, and knowing the importance of his work,

entered the sky and went along like Garuda.

result of the task at hand

yojanaanaam Sathasyaanthe vanaraajim

dhadharSa saH

 

Reaching other shore almost,

looking around he saw the series of forests at the end of the hundred yojanas.

 

praapthabhooyishtapaaraH- reaching the

other side of the ocean almost, bhooyishta has the meaning `almost'

besides `abundant.'

 

sarvathaH prathi lokayan- looking all around

, sarvathaH means everywhere and prathi is towards.

 

Yojanaanaam Sathasya anthe- at the end of

the hundred yojanas, that is when he has covered 100 yojanas,

 

dhdharSa- saw

 

vanaraajim- seires of

forests.

 

The particle `ha' is used

often by valmiki to denote wonder.

viviDhadhrumabhooshitham

malayopavanaani cha

 

The best among monkeys saw while

he was descending, the island adorned with various kinds of trees and forests

in the region of Malayaparvata.

 

SaakhaamrgaSreshtaH – the greatest

of monkeys Hanuman

 

dhadharSa- saw

 

pathanneva- while

descending,

 

dheepam- the island

 

viviDhadhrumabhooshitham- adorned with

various kinds of trees

 

malaya upavanaani cha –and forests of

the Malaya mountain.( This is different the malaya mountain in south India.

saagaraanoopajaan dhrumaan

 

saagarasya cha pathneenaam mukhaanyapi

vilokayan

 

Seeing the sea, the bay and the

trees on the bay and the rivers , the wives of the ocean,

 

Vilokayan- seeing

 

saagaram-the sea

 

saagaraanoopam-the bay ( anoopa

means watery place)

 

dhrumaan- trees

 

saagaraanoopajaan – that have

grown at the bay

 

mukhaani cha- and the faces

 

pathneenaam- the wives of

 

saagarasya- the sea, That

is the rivers joining into the sea.

sameekshya aathmaanam

aathmavaan

 

nirunDhantham iva aakaasam chakaara

mathimaan mathim

 

also seeing himself as a great

cloud as though obstructing the sky,the wise and self controlled Hanuman

thought thus.

Seeing my body grown and the speed

the rakshasas will become curious, thought the great monkey.

mama- of me

Then contracting his body

which was like the mahendhra mountain, he regained his original form as the

one who has realized his self. becoming devoid of delusion.

Contracting that form very much

Hanuman stood in his natural state like

the Lord Hari who took away the power of Bali by taking three steps.

and different forms and invincible by enemies and who knew himself well and who

knew his purpose reached the other side of the ocean, assuming the original

form.

The great Hanuman, looking like a

big mountain, descended on the peak Lamba of the mountain, which was richly

endowed with kethaka plants and coconut trees and the like, with many peaks.

Then Hanuman reaching the coast of

the ocean, seeing Lanka on the top of the mountain descended on the mountain

casting off his former form making the animals and the birds miserable

Then, Hanuman, crossing the ocean full of asuras and serpents

and great waves, with valour, descending

on the coast of the great sea,

Saw Lanka resembling Amaravathi, the capital of Devaloka.
