HARI AUM

Excerpts from the book 'Self Knowledge' by Swami Sivanandaji.

"A wicked man does a crime and enters the jail as a prisoner. He has no independence in the jail. He is a slave. Sometimes the King also enters the jail of his own sweet will to see the condition of the prisoners. He visits the jail in order to do good to the prisoners and redress their grievances. He is quite independent. If people ask: “Where is the King now?†the Private Secretary says: “The King is in the jail now.†The criminal has entered the jail and the King also has entered the jail. But there is world of difference. Even so, the little Jiva takes birth in this world owing to the force of his desires and Karmas. He is swayed by ignorance. He has no independence. He is a slave of passions. He is a victim of Avidya. He is tossed hither and thither by the two currents, viz., Raga and Dvesha (likes and dislikes) whereas the Lord takes His incarnation in this world as an Avatara, out of his own sweet will, in order to protect

Dharma and the righteous persons and punish the unrighteous. He is quite independent. Maya is under His perfect control. He is Omnipotent and Omniscient. He has Sat-karma and Sat-sankalpa."
