Thulasi & Ekadasi - Thank you.

Dear Pratap-ji,

Thank you for letting me know about the intrinsic detail as I did not know the

same.

Irrespective of this fact, I still I consider it as a boon as I have been trying

to get some Krishna Thulasi leaves for almost an year in this part of US where

it is almost impossible to see Krishna Thulasi.

Rajee-ji had sent me some Thulasi seeds last year but none of them germinated,

maybe due to the cold weather. So, I was very disappointed. We do see Rama

Thulasi in few places but Krishna Thulasi is very rare.

So, it was my surprise when someone called me and told me this is the day and

time when they could give me Thulasi leaves from their monthly trimming of the

plant. (I know that sounds difficult, but they are strong devotees and they have

their own reasons to do unlike our belief)

When we live away from our native places, things are not the same as it is back

home. For example, how will you know when is Ekadasi when we have a 13 hour time

difference from Guruvayoor? [initially we used to follow the day as it is in

India but now we have a local Hindu Panjangam and follow the same. ]

If you ask 10 people, you get 10 answers to this and everyone strongly argue

that their version is based on scriptures and correct. That is why we end up

celebrating same Hindu festivals in difference days across india and sometimes

even in Kerala itself.

I got my answer to such confusion from a few elders - like our dear Savitriji

who told me that, the most important thing is our strong belief in God, then our

duties to our family (like small children) and then comes rituals and other

things. And HE understands it.

So more than whether we follow a prescribed version from one part of India or

other, I would say let us believe in Narayana more than we believe in the

ritualistic details. Circumstantial and geographical adjustments are part of

life and HE will understand it.

My sincere thank you for letting me know about Thulasi leaves as we all will

remember not to pluck it on Ekadasi.

(Before that we need a Thulasi plant. So first I pray to God to let us have a

Krishna Thulasi plant - Om Namo Narayanaya:)

Bhakthi Yogam and word " Asi " is illustrated by Njaana Yogam. During Karma yogam

and Bhakthi Yogam, a sadhaka retains the concept of duality, that is, God and I,

where as Njaana Yogam takes saadhaka beyond dwaitham or Duality to Advaitham or

Non-duality. Saadhaka merges with the Parmaathma Chaithanyam. When one goes

beyond the states of " tvam " and " that " , he goes beyond Kaalam or time of

Bhoota-vartthamaana -bhaavi or past-present- future. This stage is beyond all

three Gunaas, all three time frames, all three states Jaagrath, Sswapnam,

Sushupthi (or waking, dream and deep sleep) and Bhagavaan advises Arjuna and all

of us to reach the Thuriya or the fourth state of bliss through the steps of

selfless actions and  sincere love of God and all of His creation.

> Dear all,

>

>

> 1.The name Sudama. This word means one who is bound by the rope of different

karmaas. (daamam is rope)

>

> 2. Sudama got the name Kuchelan because his poverty sometimes forced him to

wear not- so- clean  clothes or Kuthsitha chela. (he did not even have another

one to wear when the one he was wearing was being washed and dried)

>

>

> 3. Four handfuls of rice flakes or Poha (avil in Malayalam) stand for Dharmam,

arthham, kaamam and Moksham.

>

> 4. The rice with husk (before making into flakes) represents karmabeejam or

seed of actions. In the right environment it will sprout. To avoid that, with

great effort it was made into flakes and tied in a bag so that no more karmaas

will sprout from those seeds.

>

>

> 5. This bag of flakes also represents the warmth of his friendship with Lord

Krishna. It is not appropriate to visit Lord with empty hands.

>

> 6. Lord Krishna who is Dwaraka vaasin is Kshethrajnan or one who dwells in

every body's heart.

>

> Now let us put the story together:

>

> One who is bound by the karmaas (sudaama and all of us), with great effort and

intense devotion transformed the seeds of all his Dharma, arthha, kaama and

moksha kaamya karmaas or result oriented actions, into nishkaama karmaas (with

out expecting results) or flakes that would never sprout, tied in a bag  and

offered at the feet of Lord Krishna, the Kshethrajnan, as a symbol of his warm

friendship and love.

>

>

> Eating one handful of the flakes was enough to give all the blessings Sudama

needed to continue his journey in the path of devotion towards Bhagavaan. Sudama

got what he deserved with out asking the Lord.

>

> Bhagavaan takes away everything from a DEVOTEE when he sees that

wealth creates an obstacle in their path of devotion. But when poverty becomes

an obstacle in a DEVOTEE's path of devotion, he showers with wealth on them.

Either way devotees always feel grateful towards Bhagavaan's decisions. This

is hundred percent true in Sudama's case.

Karthyayani temples observe their annual festival day today .Today there will be

a special pooja in the Vadakkunnathan Temple Trichur on the wall on the Southern

Side . It is belived that Paramashivan will be sitting on the wall watching the

Kumaranelloor Karthyayani temple festival . Most of the devottees offer their

prayers in the evening in front of the wall rather than the Srikovil.

timeless and ulimate truth as illuminated by the Sanathana Dharma had not been

appreciated even in India till recently. It is the most liberal and democratic

It is very strange that a learned Scholar should say that the Thulsi plant

should not be watered !

It is a plant and like all other plants , it needs water to grow.

Otherwise it will dryup and wither away,

jai shree krihna !
