Dear all,

According to the scriptures, the three characteristics of brahmam are Sat, Chit and Aanandam or Brahmam is Sacchidaanandam. These three are the attributes of the attributeless!

Let us explore what is Sat. Sat is Existence. Existence of what? Existence of that Chithanyam with out a second. According to Vedanthins, this world is only a projection exactly like how we project a snake on a piece of rope. Here brahmam is the real thing, rope and world is the snake. So brahmam is the only truth. This only existing truth is Sat.

What is Chit? The complete knowledge about Sat is called Chit or it is called Consciousness or Awareness of the only existing truth and awareness that nothing else exists. So we can say that only Awareness exists.

What is Ananda? It is absolute bliss after the awareness of the Only Existing Thing (Sat) dawns. . In this state neither there is sorrow nor happiness. This blissful stage is beyond mind and beyond thoughts. According to a definition by Ranganathananda Swamy, it is the blissful stage generated from cessation of all thoughts.

So Sacchidaanandam is Existence-Consciousness-Bliss. For ordinary people like us, it is described as the blissful state of knowing that Bhagavaan is Everything. Gopikaas experienced this sacchidaanandam by seeing Krishna as the meaning of their life and Krishna was everything for them.

May Lord's blessings lift all of us to that state of bliss.

Regards and prayers
