Last Sunday we had a painful experience at home, I thought i will share will the group members here.

Our neighbour is a family of Malayalee Christians who are in Dubai and the house is let out to some of their relatives who go normally to  church on sunday mornings.  They have a dog which is taken care of by their servants. He gives bath to this dog on sundays as it is a part of his duty demanded by the house owner.  The owner is least bothered to see how the dog is and its health conditions.  The dog is less than a year.   It is hardly given food properly nor  it is allowed to be out of its kennel.  Every sunday when this guy gives bath to this dog, he has a huge wooden log with which he simply beats the dog.  As its crying turned out to be so unbearable, my daughter opened the door, went out and told the guy not to beat the dog.  He got annoyed and said, i know what to do.  My daughter said, as per law, you are not supposed to beat/torture the animals.  He said, " do whatever u want "  when she said she would give a complaint.  She immediately called CUPA and an inspector  came to inspect and warned the guy not to do this any more and if he cannot take care of the dog, CUPA can take it happily.  They did not bother to give the animal.  HATS OFF TO CUPA for their instantaneous action.  The inspector again called us and said that if he does again, to let them know so that CUPA can put the guy behind bars.

On similar lines to animal cruelty I would like to share my personal experience which just happended yesterday.

I was visiting my cousins new flat in Mumbai which is still under construction. There was a lot of construction acitivity going all around, and my cousin had gone to do some paperwork, whereas I waited in the car.

While I was waiting for my cousin, my attention shifted to a very gruesome site. One constuction worker was holding a long bamboo pole and with that huge pole, he was sticking into a small bird-like creature. From the car, I could not understand what was happening, so I went near to the site to investigate.

It so happened, that a small Owl (Owlet) was tied by a long rope to a metal frame and this guy with his friends were tormenting that poor Owl with that long bamboo stick. I was so upset to see this and I warned them not to trouble the owl and then after they heard me speak went away from the owl.

I decided not to move away from the owl, and it was a wise decision because just a couple of minutes after this incident a stray dog came to attack that Owl. I immediately shooed that dog away and waited near that owl till my cousin came back.

He then enquired who had tied that owl and it seems that one of the construction workers had found that Owl on the ground and he decided to tie that owl with a thick rope to the metal frame.

We then decided to rescue that Owl, my cousin managed to unite that Owl. That poor creature was shivering with fright, and its leg which was tied had swollen to almost twice the normal size.

We packed the Owl in a well ventilated box and brought it home. Repeated calls to the SPCA, and the local animal rescue teams were futile. Atlast I knew a person known to my sister who has training on how to deal with injured and sick animals.

We called him and he took it away from us after performing the necessary paperwork. I came to know that the Owl is safe in his possesion. He will in turn nurse the owl along with other wild animals which he rescues and then will be released in parks in Mumbai, such as the Sanjay Gandhi National park. I hope that the Owl recovers and lives on.

In all this ordeal, I was just thinking about the plight of that poor owl and what karmas did that Owl's soul do to deserve such a pitiable condition.

We humans need to be compassionate to the lesser beings. We need to know by saving these innocent animals from needless violence and suffering we are indeed serving our Lord Sri Guruvayoorappan truely.

I hope we educate our children and the younger generations to be kind and compassionate to ALL living beings, be they humans or animals.

Sarvam Sri Krishnaarpanamastu.

Sincerely,

Kamlesh

Respected Jayasreeji ,

PRANAMS,

May Lord Guruvayoorappan bless you for taking so much care about the fellow

beings whether they are human or beasts.

The Lord is present in every living things .The following story was ready by me

some times back.

Once Lord Ganesha was playing with a cat .In the midst of the play he took the

poor creature by its tail and swung around continuously .After the play was over

, he went to Mother Parvathy to have food , and found the Goddess lying in the

floor with blood oosing out of her nose . He got furious and asked his mother

who had done this and is going to kill who ever it might be. The Goddess

answered that It was Ganesha himself who had done this . When the surprised

Ganeshji asked his mother what he had done to his Dear mother she reminded him

of what he had done with the cat and whatever being done to fellow creatures

will defenitely have an impact on her being the mother of the whole

world.(JAGADAMBA)

Lord Ganeshji realised his mistake and pleaded for his mother's pardon.

A new group named Manishada have been formed by the modertors of this Guruvayur

group to deal and discuss with THE CRUELIES BEING FACED BY birds and animals . I

personally feel it is better to discuss these matters in that group which being

at an infant stage is moving slowly at a snails' pace now.

Om Namo Narayana!

Respected Kamleshji:

Perhaps the karma in this incident belonged as much to you as to the owl :-)

The Lord has His ways of testing us, and teaching us.

As someone who writes on a regular basis with passion about ahimsa towards

all living creatures,

how you handled this situation speaks volumes for your willingness to take

the time to help,

and I am glad for the owl that you and your brother were there.

There has been another thread about all the deities and our supposed choice

of what deity we

worship, yet I cannot help but wonder if the thought that we choose is but

an illusion on our part.

For myself, I believe that the Lord chooses the form in which He comes to us

and not the other

way around! And while we may have our conceptions about animals being

lesser beings, one

never knows in what form He might appear for our higher good in that moment.

One of my favorite quotes is as follows...from the Ishopanishad, mantra 1:

Ishavasyam idam sarvam

yat kincit jagatyam jagat

In this mantra, some unparalleled messages have been given for the mankind:

Firstly, it declares: jagatyam yat kinca jagat idam sarvam ishavasyam.

It means - within this entire universe, all the animate and inanimate are

pervaded by the Lord, are the statement of the Lord.
