Dear Devottees & Gurudevs ,

Today is 5th January - the day of Thalappoli of Edatharikathu Kavil

Bhagavathy. This is the Thalappoli being organised by the Thalappoli Sangham .

There is one more Thalappoli being organised by the Devaswom which comes later.

Being born and brought up in Guruvayur I had been visiting the temple from my

infan stage to till date whenever I visits Kerala . But till date I could not

understand what is the actual deity inside this temple.

I have heard that actually there was a Devi temple the place where The

Guruvayoorappan's shrine is now .The Devi voluntarily shifted to the left side

to accomodate Guruvayoorappan and is hence called The Edatharikathu Kavilamma

since then .

But what is the actual deity there ? There is only one offering to the Goddess-

that is Azhal and no other Nivedyams.

Some says it is Bhadrakali since there is one Oracle ( Velichappad )in the

temple and turmeric ( Manjal prasadam ) is offered which is a sign of Bhadrakali

Temples.

Some Says it is Karthyayani Devi.

There is another version that the Devi is the child delivered by Yesodha who was

replaced by Vasudevar . Since the child escaped from the clutches of Kamsa and

gave warning to him about his death before drinking the mother's milk , no other

Nivedyams are offered here.

There are many stories . I request to the learned Gurujis to clarify this.

Gopalakrishnan
