Guest guest
Gauranga is calling................................................... COME… PULL THE CHARIOT January 16, 2010 Time : 5.00 p.m. Ratha-yatra is the Festival of Chariots, is a joyous event celebrated in cities around the world. To cheer the lord, His servants arrange for Him to go on a lavish procession to meet up with His devotees accompanied by thousands of onlookers and marching bands with scores of drummers, singers, and dancers. Srila Prabhupada, the founder of the Hare Krishna movement, was very fond of Ratha-yatra. Today at Bangalore city in India, Hare Krishna devotees will hold Ratha-yatra parades in many cities, usually culminating in a “Festival of India” set up in a city park, with festival tents, entertainment stages, free-feast booths, and a variety of cultural displays and exhibits. Ratha-yatra signifies the Lord’s love for His devotees. He personally comes to visit His devotees and the public who welcome Him in the streets. Befitting the sentiment of its origins, Ratha-yatras in the Hare Krishna movement also serve as reunions for devotees who come from far and wide to participate, meeting up with old friends around their common goal of serving Lord Sri Krishna Balram. This is the festival commemorating the pastime in which the residents of Vrindavana take Krishna, Balarama and Subhadra from Kurukshetra to Vrindavana in Mathura on chariots and is celebrated in Jagannatha Puri in all grandeur. Srila Prabhupada conducted the Ratha Yatra festival or the festival of chariots all over the world. ISKCON Bangalore celebrates this festival by taking Sri Sri Krishna Balarama on the grand temple chariot which has a sliding canopy. The Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Deities come out of the temple and ride on Their chariot to bless the devotees. Thousands of devotees pull the chariot, offer their prayers and join in the kirtana and partake the prasadam being distributed, all along the route of the ratha yatra. The public are welcome to offer flowers, fruits, lamps, coconuts, etc., to Their Lordships. You may sweep and wash the street in front of your house / shop before the ratha arrives. LET US NOT MAKE OUR STOMACH A GRAVEYARD. LET US NOT EAT FLESH. LET US BE VEGETARIANS AND STAY HEALTHY. Animals are to be loved, not eaten. Eating flesh is good neither for the mind nor for the intellect, not even for the body. It distorts the basic character of human.
