Our Udhayabhanu Panickar-ji had requested me to translate this article for the benefit of our members who cannot read malayalam. I humbly wanted to let all know that I am not at all a "scholar" in the real meaning and with my limited knowledge I am making an effort. This article impressed me much and hence my first trial. If found useful to some, I would be happy to continue my effort. Those who know malayalam and are better than me in many ways, kindly pardon my "mistakes" and errors and correct me. I hope our Panickar-ji will post his comments without fail

Here (Dharmam) instantly the meaning come to the mind is, "helpdonationreciprocating the favor" etc. But in fact the meaning is vast and beyond this conception.

Gold is considered as gold and invaluable, because of its qualities of its depreciation and glory. The quality that make gold as gold is its "dharmam"

By which quality human is considered as human being that is what is "humanity" or "Human dharmam" . Here it means for an individual it is ones' own "responsibility".

As a family member the trust and responsibility others have "thrusted on", as member of the society the actions and responsibility towards the society, as a citizen the responsibility towards the nation etc.. all are an individual"s "dharmam" or "Duty".

If all these could not be accomplished, have no doubt, that he is not qualified to call as a human. One's duty should not be avoided. If by chance it happened, the repercussion or the bad effect will be very great. If not in this birth, that will reach us in the next births.

did not want to fight, that as an individual he has to protect his own family members, as a king he is responsible to protect the country and its people. Thus it is his duty (dharmam) is to fight and only fight. If he fails to do that it will make him infamous and unworthy of going to heaven. By not doing ones duty is equivalent to not doing ones own Dharmam. That makes a human as inhuman or an animal. What is our status of today? In this Kali yuga, it is good to examine how much the "righteousness" is fallen low. We call the present as "kalikaalam" because everyone does that, that they should not do. Sending parents to "old-age homes", for the sake of property killing own siblings, committing murders in revenge, rulers stealing from the treasury, lies, complaining about others, hatred, etc.. are widespread by some only to enjoy! Polluting the air! Polluting the water! For selfish gain cutting the forest and make it a barren land! In every field, one see only Adharmam.

Here there no humans or animals! Because humans are fallen below the level of animals. Animal only kills other animal for its food, but humans are killing not for food but for his own "feelings" If there are people who are outside this "vicious circle" they are

humiliated.

svadharmam and its path should be accepted by own self. There should no compulsion or recommendation behind that. To create that mentality in each individual, we have to reach the path that is "self realization" which is told and followed from the Veda days. Why cruel people are committing cruelty, the answer is the results of their own previous birth. Getting an opportunity to practice "worshiping" in this life itself is the result of our good "karma" in the previous births.
