Divine guidance of Sai – 5

What is the meaning of the word 'Prasanthi'? Why is it very important to everyone?

The syllable "pra" in Prasanthi means expanding, enlarging. Santhi means peace. So, Prasanthi means expanding peace, obtained by the absence of desire, anger, greed and hatred. This is the backbone of every individual, and for the spiritual aspirant, this is the very breath. Many feel that they have peace when some worldly desire that was vexing them is satisfied. That satisfaction is not real peace. It is but a temporary, short-lived interval between one worry and another...Prasanthi has no ups and downs; it cannot be partial in adversity and complete in prosperity.. It cannot be one thing today and another tomorrow. Maintaining the same even flow of ananda (bliss) always is Prasanthi (supreme peace).

What is the process to attain prasanthi, permanent peace? How does it manifest?

The process of control of senses is very essential for attaining Prasanthi. Prasanthi means success in the elimination of desire and anger. Peace is the very force that comes to the aid of those who try to develop discrimination, renunciation and keenness of intellect. Peace, just like the atma (Eternal Self) too has no beginning or end, no blemish can tarnish it. It is equalled only by itself. Such beautiful peace must be manifested in feeling, word, posture and deed in uniform equal measure.. Then, Santhi becomes Prasanthi (supreme peace).

Will absence of anger signify Prasanthi? What are the other attributes of Prasanthi?

One is unable to stand still even for a moment! Absence of mere anger cannot be taken as peace.. The winning of a desired object should not be confused with santhi (peace). Prasanthi is that, which when it pervades the heart and cannot be shaken subsequently for any reason. That type of peace alone deserves to be called Prasanthi. Prasanthi has no ups and downs, it cannot be partial in adversity and complete in prosperity. It cannot be one thing today and another tomorrow. Maintaining the same even flow of bliss, joy, always, is Prasanthi, supreme peace.
