This is regarding Swamiji's pravachan in Sadhan Sudha Sindhu --- Mann

Budddhi Apne Nahi(24).

He says " Buddhi ek karan hai aur paramatmathatv karan nirpeksh hai " .

What does he mean by Karan Nirpeksh in this pravachan.

Please advice.

regards,

A sadhak.

Dear Sadhaka, this is a good question!

Believe Swamiji Masharaj is saying here is that the body & senses (bahia karanas

- outer instruments) and four components of Antahkaran (Inner instruments are

Manas, Budhi, Chit & ahamkar), they all are instruments only to do something.

Any thing done with these instruments is dependent and is done in Prakriti only.

Therefore anything done with these is called karana-sapeksha (using the

karanas). Anything we learn or do with the karanas can be forgotten after a

while because they are part of the lower " Apara " prakriti (Gita 7-4) and are

subject to change with Prakriti in time.

But Paramatma Tatva cannot be known with these karanas, it is to be realized by

the SELF only, that's why the term " karana Nir-pekasha " (without using the bahia

& antahkaranas) to realize Paramatma. Anything realized through SELF becomes

part of our permanent nature and we cannot forget once realized. Swamiji Maharaj

gave the famous example - once the girl gets married, she never forgets that his

husband's family is her new family.

Ram Ram!

With regards,

A sadhka

Divine One:

>He says " Buddhi ek karan hai aur paramatmathatv karan nirpeksh hai " .

***********

The " manah " or mind has 4 functional aspects.

manas

buddhi

chitta

ahamkAra

Here buddhi or intellect is the discriminative faculty. It is the decision

maker. It is the decision maker for whom? For " ahamkAra " or ego. So it is an

instrument and it has a causal support.

" karan nirapekssa " means without any cause and support. It exists on its

own. Please read chapter 13 of Gita. Just like space exists everywhere yet

not attached, similarly " paramAtman " is everything and anything yet

unattached. This is only possible when there is One and nothing else.

Wave of the sea constitutes the ingredients of the sea. It is merely a

disturbance on the surface. Waves rise in the sea, exists for some time in

the sea eventually dissolves in the sea. It is sea all along. But wave was

there for some time and disappeared in the sea.

This whole world is made of " sankaLpa " . It is just like a wave. But it is

nothing but the part of the sea of Brahman. It is merely a disturbance. It

will disappear. Again it will appear. It will go on infinitely. Infinite

waves and wavelets will rise, exist and disappear infinitely yet sea remains

sea.

But remember wave is part of the sea but sea is not the part of the wave.

" mamatwabodha " or conviction of " I " ness is the cause of all sufferings. Wave

doesn't belong to itself. It belongs to the sea. It is part and parcel of

the sea. In the same way when " I " ness is always realized of its source and

works in the " tyAGa bhAva " or in mode of surrendering to Supreme Almighty

Lord, then there can be no suffering whatsoever.
