Guest guest
Shree Hari Ram Ram When Pujya Swamiji, gives discourses on " Vasudeva Sarvam " (All is God) - (Gita 7:19), He often brings up the following doha from Ramcharitramanas - " Aisaa abhimaan jaaye nahi bhore, Mein sewak, Raghupati pati more. " 1) What does this doha from Ramcharitramanas really mean? 2) What is the connection between Vasudeva Sarvam (from Gita 7:19) and this doha from Ramcharitramanas? 3) Swamiji says that one's spiritual practices are dependent on one's inclinations. To those that He suggests this doha as a spiritual practice, what guidance can you suggest, so that they become fully established in this saadhan (spiritual practice)? Guest guest
Divine One: **************** > " Aisaa abhimaan jaaye nahi bhore, Mein sewak, Raghupati pati more. " > >1) What does this doha from Ramcharitramanas really mean? ************ The above one is a ChoupAhi not a Doha. The ChoupAhi is: " asa abhimAna jAi jani bhore, mai.n sevaka raghupati pati morae " The above lines occur in the first part of 11th ChoupAhi between 10th and 11th DohA of AraNya kAnDa in SrirAma Charita mAnasa by Santha Tulasi Das. These lines were uttered by SutikssNa, a disciple of sage Agastya, to Lord Rama who was a great devotee of Lord Rama while SrirAma was visiting many sages with LakssmaNa and Sita in the forest. Here the word " asa " is very important. This refers to the description in previous ChoupAhi. It goes like this: " je jAnahin te jAnahuN swAmI. saguna aguna ura antarajAmI jo kosala pati rAjiva nayanA. karau so rAma hridaya mama ayanA. " Here the devotee sutikssNa says those who know Lord know that He is with and without attributes (guNas (sattwa, rajas and tamas)) and witness of all hearts. Let my heart be abode of Lotus Eyed Lord Rama. After this the devotee is beseeching O Lord Rama let the abhimAn or ego of knowing You (as described above) never touch me for I am only a servant of Raghupati (Lord Rama) and Lord Rama is my Master. *********************** >2) What is the connection between Vasudeva Sarvam (from Gita 7:19) >and this doha from Ramcharitramanas? *************** The shloka in gItA (7:19) says: bahUnAm janmanAmante, jnAnavAn mAm prapadyate vAsudevah sarvamiti, sa mahAtmA sudurllabhah. A jnAnI or a realized Master, who is a very rare great soul, realizes the Lord as everything and being after many life cycles. This " everything and being as Lord " or " vAsudeva sarvam iti " cover " saguNa, aguNa and witness of all " which is described as " asa " in the ChoupAhi and that is the Lord. That is Sat-Chit-Ananda. Metaphoricall speaking: vAsu means the spirit or soul of the universe and vAsudeva means the Master of the universal soul. Similary rAma is derived from verb " ramate " means which is everywhere in every thing. Hence both rAma and vAsudeva means the all encompassing Spirit, the source of All (things, beings, attributes etc.) or BhagawAn. *************** >3) Swamiji says that one's spiritual practices are dependent on one's >inclinations. To those that He suggests this doha as a spiritual >practice, what guidance can you suggest, so that they become fully >established in this saadhan (spiritual practice)? ************ Each living being is unique according to one's samskAras. That is the reason Lord says.. " manussyANam sahasressu kaschidyatati siddhaye.... " (Gita 7:3) which means, of thousands of people some rare ones follow spirtual path. Hence extremely few will be on the spritual path and of them rarely one will be realized. Hence according to one's prArabdha or karmas of past lives one has likes and dislikes and leads the life accordingly. Here Swamiji has highlighted the " dAsya " bhAva of devotion as an effective antidote for egoism, egotism, selfishness etc. Humility is the primary requirement of a sAdhaka. When ego raises its ugly head originating from one's past karma, one should use the discrimination or viveka to make the same as servant of the Lord. Without " ego " human body cannot exist. So the best way to be unaffected by ego's evilness is to surrender the same at the Lotus Feet of the Lord. Guest guest
Shree Hari Ram Ram! Priya sadhaka, these are inspiring questions but difficult ones, humbly will try to address - COMMENT ON Q1. This chaupaee is addressed to Shree Ramchanderji by His dear devotee Sutikashana (a disciple of Augustya Rishi) in Aranyan Kandha: Meaning - " I should never forget that exalted proud feeling even for a moment that I am a humble " sevak " (servant) of Shree Ramji, my " Prabu " (Master, Swami) " . Here, being the word " proud " means the Satvic Abhiman or Garav) We see that even having an ego becomes positive here since it is submitted to God. Sutikshana says, no doubt I am great sevak but it is not because of my greatness but due to the fact that I belong to my great Master. In a lokik world, this is similar to a son being proud (having " garav " )that he is the son of a such a great father, or even, a father feeling proud about his son's achievements or possessing noble qualities. Also, any one is happy, fearless feels reassured when he has a godfather to take care of him. Likewise, for Sutikashana it is a proud, reassuring and loving feeling that all his " Yoga " and " Kshema " are taken care of by his sweet great Master. From now on, there is nothing for him to fear or to worry about. COMMENT ON Q2. Sutikshana knows that the God has incarnated as an ideal king as Dashratha's son. Before seeing Ramji in the beautiful human form, with Lord Rama's grace Sutikashana had a vision of Chaturbhuj Narayana in his heart while he was contemplating. Sutikshana knows that in His unmanifested form Ramji is pervading the whole universe, therefore He is the " Vasudeva " in all, thus the Vasudev Sarvam applies. COMMENT ON Q3. The most important point, believe Swamiji Maharaj is pointing out for a devotee to use this chaupaee as a spritiual decipline, it is crucial to build an intimate and eternal relationship ( " Ananya " ) with God which you feel proud (have garav) of. In this case it is the relationship of priya sevak to loving master. Another example of this type of sevak & master relationship is Shree Hanumanji and Shree Ramji.
