Guest guest
Namaste, For a moderate seeker, are all sense - objects to be absolutely shunned? Gita 2-58, 2-62 and 2-63 seem clear that one should shun sense objects whereas 2-64 seems to be less critical. For eg: is listening to hindi film music occasionally going to slow down ones spiritual progress. Bringing it down to zero is kind of tough Suhas FROM MODERATOR Ram Ram, The following are the guidelines for Gita-Talk discussions. 1. Wherever possible, please quote Gita or other scriptures to substantiate the response 2. Kindly make your responses concise and to the point. (Up to twenty line maximum, if possible). 3. Please limit discussions to subject at hand. 4. Please do not include links to other sites or other organizations Ram Ram
Guest guest
As I understand, it is not really the sense objects that one has to shun, but attachment to them has to be avoided which gives one a proper perspective toward them. One cannot shun sense objects no matter what we do. It is the mind that should be detached from object dependencies! Consider this: All objects are really sense objects only as they are perceived/experienced by our Consciousness as Consciousness at the moment we perceive them. Our conditioned mind attaches us to them if they give us pleasures and avoids them if they give us pain. This is our problem and not of sense objects in themselves. Sense objects don't have any poewer inherent in them. In the beginning Sadhak is told by Lord to shun them so that he/she can contemplate more on THAT which perceives them-Drashta and not that which is perceived-Drashya. Later on at some point it would become obvious that even the sense objects are extension of perceiving Consciousness(Ishwara, Atman, Krishna, Brahman whatever names we give). ALl Drashyas merge in Drashta who alone IS! Sarvam Khalu idam Brahman! With this right perspective toward the objects of the world, they are to be celebrated as in Divine Lila Krishnaji Himself did during His manifest Life! Once understood this way one can listen to Hindi Film or any Music and it will take one to his true nature-Atman. In otherwords, music or any objects are enjoyed because one is already happy in oneself rather than one wants to be happy thru music or objects! Pratap Bhatt - Sense objects - Should they be absolutely shunned? Oh ! how can that be? Life without senses cannot exist. To fulfil demands of senses is absolutely neccesary either by feeding it or by contemplation (self suggestion). But the way demand should be fulfilled should be in control of intellect. If intellect has the ability to control of the body and senses, the chariot will move to whrerever it wants. Sri Krishna was first called GOPAL (GO = indriyas/ senses and PAL = takes care of / provider) i.e., one that can satisfy senses and yet takes them in full control. References: Senses are faculty of deities inside of the body. Tulsi ji in Ram Charit Manas says that as soon as human body is constructed, deities occupy their places at various doors of the house of the human body. For example, the sun is sitting in eyes, by which it can see. Moon is power of imagination and art. Imagine ! how every human body is a court of the deities serving the Sri Krishna sitting in the centre. In Mahabharata, chariot of Arjun is symbol of the body. It had 5 horses that signify five senses. Arjun was intellect that was supposed to control the chariot. But for a devotee of the class of Arjun, Sri Krishna became operator of chariot and freed Arjun from serving the senses. Body is called Khhetra (field) and intellect its Chetrapal. Regards K G (QualityMeter.com) -------- " Yogesh Kumar Katare " Though, sounds little bit untraditional, but when I was addicted to Hindi film music, I started listening and singing with a sense that the lyrics of those love songs imply only my lord Krishna and myself only. Slowly, it came that the lyrics of Hindi film music to started evoking devotion in me. In my opinion, another safe alternative is also to hear devotional music, like Mukesh's Ramcharitmanas, etc. There are good bhajans on various sites like musicindiaonline.com Then one can also pray to God to direct and control our actions, we do not know what is right or wrong, but when we pray with tears in eyes, he always listens and responds. --\ - --- srkulhalli <srkulhalli wrote: > Namaste, > > For a moderate seeker, are all sense - objects to be > absolutely > shunned? > > Gita 2-58, 2-62 and 2-63 seem clear that one should > shun sense objects whereas 2-64 seems to be less > critical. > > For eg: is listening to hindi film music > occasionally going to slow > down ones spiritual progress. Guest guest
As I understand it... GOPAL GO means COW and PAL means the one who takes care of it. Thus GOPAL means the one who takes care of COWS that is GOPAL. Harilal Patel Pratap Bhatt <pratapbhatt Sent: Monday, January 15, 2007 8:40:43 PMRe: Sense objects - Should they be absolutely shunned?
