Guest guest
Dear Sadhakas, Namaste! As I understand it, two types of Karmas(activities, actions, kartavyas) can be observed, as implied in BG. First type consists of all those karmas with Karta-bhaav, the sense of doership(kratrutva) and bhokta-bhaav, or as receipient of fruits thereof. Such karmas lead to bondage, suffering and reincarnations. This is because sense of doership is derived from personal desires, expectations, motives etc etc impostering as " separate individual " in us! Such separation- isolation from the Whole cannot be in harmony, thus, causing suffering for isolated person. The second type are those that are done without assumed doership but with the best of one's ability and accepting whatever the fruits be as Prasaadam. We as " doers " of deeds are but one of many variables, (some hidden, some over which we don't have control)needed to bring the desired result! This is why we need to accept or else we suffer! The important aspect of this type is that one does one's duty within the guidelines of Dharma. Duties are defined by one's place, time(desh-kaal) and circumstances in which one finds oneself. Thus actions or professions done with service to people entrusted to one such as family, society or country become dharma bound duties in which doership is not present. For example, sun is just shining; it is its nature-dharma and the whole of Existence on the earth gets sustained by it. And yet it is not doer or sustainer or any such entity! It cannot not shine even if it wants to, therefore it is not a doer. In reality it is God, that Intelligence, that uses our body-mind instruments just to serve Him/Herself disguised as all of us, sentients and insentients! How do we know the work choice is correct? It is correct if it brings peace, satisfaction and joy, which is possible only if done without a doership. In summary, karmas with doership and enjoyership brings suffering and therefore not a correct purushartha or Karma-yoga. Karmas without doership and acceptance of results thereof, are harmoneous, and become duty and source of satisfaction, peace and joy! Pratap in Divine pursuits of Truth --- sadhak_insight <sadhak_insight wrote: Sri Krishna in the Bhagwat Gita says about 'niyat karma' prescribed, established duties)or 'kartavyam karmam 'kuru'. And at same time, karma (action with implication of fruits and merit, moral duty or obligation) and vyavsaya (activity, occupation, trade, profession) are said by Him as two very different things. This means, vyvsaya is certainly not karma. - What is then this duty (in our understanding at every moment in life)? - How can one decide his/her own duty or niyat karma or kartavya? - What is the test that choice of work is correct? - How is that work believed as the only way to achieve the purusha- arth (objectives of soul) in ones' life ? After that nothing is left to do? I want to enjoy bath in the tirth of this pure knowledge of ganga from sadhaks confluence at Gita talk. I hope our dear moderator will not object for dicipline of the indiciplined independent nature. regards Krishna Gopal FROM THE MODERATOR The following are the guidelines for Gita-Talk discussions.
