II 1:18 II

drupado draupadeyas ca, sarvasah prithivi-pate

saubhadras ca maha-bahuh, sankhan dadhmuh prithak prithak (Gita 1:18)

King Drupada, as well as, the five sons of Drupadi, and the mighty-

armed Abhimanyu, son of Subhadra, all of them blew their respective

conches.

From Gita Prabodhani in Hindi pg. 9 by Swami Ramsukhdasji

--------------------------

Chapter 1, Verse 18 is as follows;

DrupadaH = Drupad

DraupadeyaaH = Sons of Draupadi

Cha = and

SavashaH = all

Prithaveepate = O Lord of Earth!

SaubhadraH = son of Subhadra i.e. Abhimanyu

Cha = and

MahaabahuH = mighty armed

Shankhaan = conchs

DadhmuH = blew

Prithak = respectively

Prithak = respectively

English translation:-

O Ruler of the Earth i.e. King Dhritarashtra! King Drupada, the sons

of Draupadi and the mighty armed Abhimanyu; all of them blew their

own respective conches.

In the above verses, there is enumeration of the great warriors in

the army of the Pandavaas who enthusiastically blew their respective

conches again and again in an ascending order; thus creating an

effect of the great crescendo. The entire army of Pandavaas was

fully determined to fight to death so as to seek freedom from

tyrannical rule of `A-Dharma' that was perpetuated by the hundred

sons of Dhritarashtra and the devious uncle Shakuni.

The enthusiasm of the army of Pandavaas was in great contrast to the

pall of gloom in the army of Kauravaas. Pandavaas were also referred

to as `Hrita-Rashtraas' meaning those princes whose kingdom has been

taken away / usurped by others.

The incumbent party in any election in today's scenario wants to

maintain `status quo' and is always afraid of losing seats.

Pandavaas and their army were not worried as they had nothing to

lose.

Thanks & Best Regards,
