II 1:43 II

dosair etaih kula-ghnaanam, varna-sankara-kaarakaih

utsadyante jati-dharmaah, kula-dharmaas cha sasvatah (Gita 1:43)

The age old caste-traditions and family-customs will be destroyed

due to the intermixture of castes created by bad deeds of these

family destroyers.

From Gita Prabodhani in Hindi pg. 16 by Swami Ramsukhdasji

--------------------------

Chapter 1, Verse 43 is as follows;

DoShaiH = by evil deeds

EtaiH = by these

Kulghnaanaam = of the family destroyers

VarNasankar - KaarakaiH = causing intermingling of castes

Utsaadyante = are destroyed

Jaati - DharmaaH = caste religious rites

Kula - DharmaaH = family religious rites

Cha = and

ShaashvataaH = eternal

English translation:-

The ever-lasting caste-virtues and family-merits get ruined due to

intermingling of castes created by the misdeeds of the family

destroyers.

Whenever we ignore the ideals enshrined in the ancient, time tested

rich cultural and religious traditions; we end up in disturbing the

fine and yet dynamic social equilibrium and thereby generating

undesired `Entropy' i.e. a doctrine of inevitable social decline and

degeneration.

In modern thermodynamics theory, `Entropy' is a function of

thermodynamic variables such as temperature, pressure and

composition of matter that is a measure of the energy that is not

available for useful work during a thermodynamic process.

In effect, such actions of bypassing the eternal rich cultural and

religious traditions ultimately result into bringing utter chaos in

this mortal word. They also shatter the trust and confidence between

two human beings. What follows then is animal like behaviour of the

constant search of `next meal and next mating partner'.

Lord Krishna is still unimpressed and unmoved by the apparent

profoundness of Arjuna's seemingly unassailable logical constructs

as he knows very well that under severe mental stress, Arjuna is

unable to figure out what is his obligatory duty as a warrior.

Please refer to verse 16 of chapter 4. In this verse Lord Krishna

himself has cautioned that, " What is right action? What is

inaction? – To such perplexing questions, those constantly arise in

our daily lives, even the wise are bewildered. I will advice you

what right action is for you to perform; knowing which you will be

permanently liberated from evil " .

When an inner conflict arises, one does not know what is one's duty

in a family or in a society. When the true inherent spirit in the

customs, traditions and religious rites is lost; the ignorant masses

cling to the dead carcass of blind rituals beyond one's capacity and

means. Even today, a death in a family brings impoverishment to the

surviving family; due to costly rituals performed to uphold their

false status in a society, beyond their capacity and means. This is

sheer madness.

When the piety or righteousness is lost even by the womenfolk, who

are the real custodians of every society; they become unchaste and

corrupt with the ultimate result of creation of progeny who have no

clear idea of what is their `VarNa Dharma', `Jaati Dharma' and `Kula

Dharma'; thus rendering the entire society or even the entire nation

into utter chaos and confusion.

Please refer to verse 7 of chapter 4. Lord Krishna gives solemn

assurance to Arjuna, " Whenever there is a decline of righteousness

and rise of unrighteousness, O Arjuna, I incarnate Myself from time

to time "

Lord Vishnu's incarnation in the personified form of Lord Krishna

has a precise divine purpose of averting such utter chaos and

confusion in the great nation called `Bhaarat – Varsha' despite the

looming, devastating royal battle.

Thanks & Best Regards,

Shrikant Joshi.
