Guest guest
|| Shree Hari || Ram Ram II 2:10 II tam uvaacha hrishikeshah, prahasann iva bhaarata senayor ubhayor madhye, viseedantam idam vacah " O Bharata (Dhrtarashtra, born in Bharata dynasty), Sri Krishna, as if smiling, addressed the following words to the despondent Arjuna while in the midst of the two armies. " From Gita Prabodhani in Hindi pg. 23 by Swami Ramsukhdasji --------------------------- Chapter 2, Verse 10 is as follows; Tam = to him Uvaacha = said HrusheekeshaH = Krishna Prahasan = smiling Iva = as it were Bhaarata = O King Dhritarashtra! SenayoH = of the armies UbhayoH = both Madhye = in the middle Visheedantam = despondent Idam = these VachaH = words English translation:- O King Dhritarashtra, to him (Arjuna) thus depressed in the middle of the two armies; Lord Krishna spoke these words, with a faint smile in satisfaction. As a dawn is the harbinger of daybreak, Lord Krishna's chuckle is indicative of the bright emerging future for Arjuna, who has been yearning for `Shreyas' i.e. the tasks he ought to perform to uphold the righteousness. Please note that Lord Krishna is not smiling at the striking disparity between Arjuna's stellar reputation of being the best archer and his shameful ineptitude on the battlefield so far. Lord Krishna's smile indicates that, now is the most opportune moment to deliver the `Yoga' i.e. the unity with the Self, to Arjuna. It is the same timeless, imperishable `Yoga', which the Pure Consciousness had proclaimed to the Sun God who passed on the baton to Manu, who in turn handed it over to Ikshavaaku, the creator of the Solar dynasty in which Lord Rama was born. Please refer verse 1 from chapter 4 in Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta. With this verse 10, the preamble of Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta gets over and from the succeeding verse 11; the nectarine starts to flow from the lips of Lord Shree Krishna. It reminds me of the famous Shloka from Maharshee Veda Vyaasa; " Geetaa Sugeetaa KartavyaaH, Kim AnyaiH Shaastra VistaraiH; Yaa Svayam Padnaabhasya Mukha Padmaat ViniH Srutaa " It is the noble duty of every human being to lead a life on the basis of the universal teachings of Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta. As the divine nectarine has flowed from the lotus faced incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself, what is the grand purpose left over in mastering all other branches of knowledge? There is nothing greater than `Shreyas' for every human being to seek. The very human existence finds fulfillment in It. Arjuna is soon going to be a worthy recipient of the `Yoga' i.e. unity with the Self. Therefore, there is a significant, divine smile on the face of Lord Krishna. When the misplaced human ego in the form of dejected and dispirited Arjuna sits back in the body represented by the chariot, throwing down all instruments of ego-centric activities represented here by the divine arch `Gaandiva', when the sense-organs in the form of the white horses are held back by the pulled reins represented by the stable mind, then the charioteer in the form of Lord Krishna with his Pure Intellect will steer that human ego on the path of righteousness and ultimately lead to the divinity. Thanks & Best Regards, Shrikant Joshi. =============================================================== FROM " THE BHAGAVAD GITA - SADHAK SANJIVANI " II 2:10 II Link: — In the next verse, Sanjaya describes what happened, when Arjuna flatly refused to fight. Supplement Only — On the sacred (righteous) soil of Kuruksetra on one side the Kaurava-army is arrayed while on the other side the Pandava-army is arrayed. In the middle of the two armies a glorious chariot drawn by white horses is placed. In one part of that chariot Lord Krsna is seated while in another part Arjuna is seated. The Lord starts preaching the divine gospel for the benediction of mankind by making Arjuna, an instrument and first of all He describes the discrimination between the body and (the embodied soul) its possessor.
