Guest guest
|| Shree Hari || Ram Ram || 2:64 & 2:65 || raga-dvesa-vimuktais tu, visayan indriyais caran atma-vasyair vidheyatma raga-dvesa-vimuktais tu || 64 || prasade sarva-duhkhanam, hanir asyopajayate prasanna-cetaso hy asu, buddhih paryavatisthate || 65 || " But a self-controlled Yogi (karma yogi) or a spiritual aspirant, while using objects with the senses controlled and freed from attraction and aversion (Raga-Dwesha), attains tranquility (purity) of mind. With the attainment of such tranquility (purity), all his sorrows come to an end; and the intellect of such a person of tranquil (pure) mind, very soon without any doubts becomes, firmly established in Paramatma (God) " . Comment: If there is no attachment to the objects of the senses, even enjoying the pleasures sanctioned by the scriptures, there is no fall for him, instead he advances in the spiritual path. From " Gita Prabodhani " in Hindi, page 60 by Swami Ramsukhdasji ---------------------- Chapter 2, Verse 65 is as follows; Prasaade = in peace Sarva-DuHkhaanaam = of all pains / sorrows HaaniH = destruction Asya = his / of a Sadhaka Up-Jaayate = arises Prasanna-ChetasaH = of the tranquil-minded Hi = because Aashu = soon BuddhiH = intellect Pari-AvatiShtate = becomes steady English translation:- In tranquility of mind, all his sorrows are destroyed. The intellect of the tranquil-minded person soon becomes steady. Comment: In this mortal world, the majority point of view is that human life is just like a half filled glass of water. It is upto you, either to be contended with what you already have got or to cry for ever, for what you are missing. Majority of people are constantly contemplating on what they do not have. This results into a constantly agitated mind, that craves for all the things that are absent in the half empty glass. The various forms of suffering which men of the world undergo are directly traceable to the loss of agreeable objects, or contact with disagreeable objects and can be broadly classified under the three types: (1). Adhyatmika or arising from bodily or mental disturbance (2). Adidaiveka or arising from outward natural causes (3). Adhibautika, caused by other beings, animals or men The word 'Dukhanam' in this verse refers to all these forms of suffering. Loss of, or contact with any object fails to bring sorrow to the Sadhaka who has tasted the Sattvika spiritual joy. With a disturbed mind, the intellect cannot function properly. Conversely with a steady and well focused mind, the intellect becomes sharp and it leads to actions that are dynamic and yet balanced ones. This results into spiritual progress of every Sadhaka. " After curdling, the milk is required to be kept undisturbed in one place so that it may coagulate into good curds. Any change of place after curdling, will have adverse effect on curd formation. Likewise mind is to be fixed on the Lord only for it to become calm and divine. " …………. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahansa A calm, cool and collected mind, with the rudder of sharp intellect, generates actions that are more productive and efficient, which ultimately result into prosperity and victory in every walk of life. Constant pursuit of happiness is the distinctive hallmark of every human manifestation. You increase your happiness by fulfilling your residual desires as well as by reducing existing desires or by both the means while exercising self restraint. On the contrary, if no self control is exercised in generating additional new desires, then it results into demoniacal tendencies that are very nicely portrayed by Lord Krishna in the verses 13 to 15 in chapter 16 of Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta. Such people of demoniacal nature, outwardly project themselves to be happy, but internally they are always unhappy and insecure. Therefore, it is very important for every Sadhak to always recollect Lord Krishna's excellent definition of a happy person in the verse 23 of chapter 5 in Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta, wherein he has proclaimed, " He, who before liberation from his physical body in this world, has withstood the impulsive forces of desire and anger; he is a Yogi and he is indeed a happy man " . The verses 64 and 65 in chapter 2 of Shreemad Bhagawad Geeta offer a unique solution for finding peace and tranquility within oneself rather than searching endlessly in the external world. In this manner by gaining both material as well as spiritual prosperity, it leads to satisfying the main pursuits of humanity. Sant Dnyaaneshwara has defined `ManaH-Shaantee' as the fountain of nectar (Amruta) that is sprung automatically within a `Tyaagee' who lives a life of moderation and self-regulation. It reminds me of a famous verse by Santa Tukaaraama, " Mana Karaa Re Prasanna, Sarva Siddhimche KaaraNa " i.e. Please make conscious effort to keep your mind calm, cool and collected with positive thinking; as it is one of the main instruments to achieve further spiritual progress. In tranquility of mind, all sorrows are destroyed. A peaceful mind is the hallmark of a happy person. Peace is happiness and happiness is peace.
