Sub: Brief Review – 1999/00 to 2002/03 The College is administered by Sri Ranganatha Vidyalaya Trust, established in the year 1968 and exempted under Sec. 80-G of the Income Tax Act. The College has grown over the years, has 1043 students (incl. 257 girls), 70 Faculty members and 40 other support staff during the academic year 2002/03 and today offers Nine PG Courses and Six UG Courses. During these four financial years the Trust had earned revenue surpluses of Rs. 55.71 lakhs, Rs. 31.78 lakhs, Rs. 39.89 lakhs and Rs. 51.00 lakhs* respectively before depreciation but after incurring the expenses of running the Patasalas listed above. Rs. 15 lakhs have been ordered during the current financial year 2002/03 for our Bio Sciences Departments. These are being installed during FY/AY 2003/04. A well-wisher donated his motorcar free to the College this year! v) The net deficit during the past four years was Rs.166.89 lakhs after applying the entire operating surpluses listed in ii) above. This was met by a) the spontaneous & munificent contributions and donations from Sishyas and well wishers of H.H. Srimad Andavan and b) loans and contributions from the other Trusts of our Asramam and finally from the corpus funds of the Asramam headquarters. AY 2003/04: IMMEDIATE PLANS vi) We are starting three new PG and one new UG Course in addition to four PG Diploma Courses in career oriented Life Science Disciplines. The most exciting course is the M.Sc (Bio Informatics), requiring very special software programs costing Rs. 20.00 lakhs and more. Very few Colleges in the southern districts (why, the entire state of TamilNadu for that matter) offer this course. We are also building new hostel blocks for men and a block of classrooms – 35,000 Sq.Ft in all with a projected construction budget of Rs. 120.00 – 129.00 lakhs. Computer Hardware, Software and accessories will be upgraded on a continuous basis over the next few years! We expect total student strength of 1300/ 1350 with 84 members of Faculty. Detailed report will be circulated within 6 weeks after setting up the Bio Informatics Department. LONG TERM PLANS IN BRIEF vii) We have major expansion plans over the next 5/6 years. We have entered into a collaborative exchange program with Clemson University, South Carolina, U.S.A. in the fields of Bio Engineering, Student/ Faculty Exchange, Joint Research and any other activity for mutual benefit. We plan to convert this into an Institution of Excellence in Life Sciences and a Deemed University, named “Srimad Andavan University” latest by 2007/08. By 2007/08 we expect total student strength of 1800/2000 and 120 members of Faculty and other supporting staff. We need to drastically scale up our infrastructure – listed in our report titled “College Expansion”; the total capital investment is estimated at Rs. 7.50 to 9.00 crores to build new and to upgrade the existing infrastructure. SOURCES OF FUNDING viii) The College will generate a surplus (after meeting the costs of running the Sanskrit Patasalas) of appr. Rs. 3.50 – 4.00 crores @ the current rates. We need to get permanent affiliation from the Bharathi Dasan University for our Computer Sciences/ Life Sciences Departments to qualify for grants from the Centre (U.G.C., Dept. of Bio Technology, Dept. of Science & Technology) subject to our fulfilling certain statutory norms. This may generate funding of Rs. 1.50 – 2.00 crores. We still need to generate a minimum of Rs. 2.50 – 3.00 crores over the next 5 years for our Arts & Science College alone from our Donors and Well wishers who have supported our cause so magnificently all these years. TRADITIONAL SYSTEMS OF EDUCATION ix) We have substantial expansion plans for our Traditional Education streams. These have been discussed in a report titled “Sanskrit Veda & Prabandham Patasalas – A Long Term Vision” already circulated. The English and Tamizh versions of this report were published respectively in the Dec. 2002 & April 2003 issues of our journal ‘Sri Ranganatha Paduka’. The long-term vision is to set up a “Sri Ramanuja University” for Sanskrit, Vedas, SAstrAs, Prabandhams etc., by 2015 A.D. (latest) being the Sathabishekam Year of H.H. Srimad Andavan. This will be an Academy of Higher Learning encompassing all the streams of Sri Vaishnavaite Philosophy. x) This is the least that we the Sishyas and Abhimanis can do to repay our debt to one of the Great Acharya Saarvabhaumas of all times. The concepts, plans, budgets and sourcing of funds for this great project are getting ready! In a short while, the writer will submit the updated versions of “College Expansion” & “Sanskrit Veda & Prabandham Patasalas – A Long Term Vision” incorporating at least an outline of these projects.
