Guest guest
SriRamaJayam. Dear People, I am S. Vijayaraghavan. I am living in Chennai. I am 17 years old. I regularly wear our traditional Shri Chooranam everyday. Recently serious doubts have risen in my mind as reagrds to the colour to be worn. This is because I see many people wearing it in red, orange and yellow colours. I regularly wear it in yellow colour. What is the reason for so many colours to be used? What is the right colour to be used? Kindly clarify my doubts. Thank you. Regards S. Vijayaraghavan.

Guest guest
SrimathE Ranga Ramanuja Mahadesikaya Nama: SrI: Dear Swami, First of all one should not sport srichoornam without thiruman. Though everyone wears thiruman and srichoornam the 12 thiruman-srichoornam is only for sishyas who have undergone samasrayanam. Coming to colour. Asmad Kalakshepa acharyan had once told that saastras prescribe the colour of the srichoornam to be that of GOLD! this is why our elders sport yellow color srichoornam! Swami also told that red color is also in sampradayam and it is ok! But usually our acharyaas( Srimad Andavans of Periyaashramam) during our samasrayanam time uses yellow colour only. Srimad Injimedu Azhagiyasingar Swami seems to have mentioned in His ahnika grantham that one uses yellow colour after bharanyasam! So devar can continue wearing it in yellow colour but along with thiruman. It is very much against saastras to wear srichoornam alone!
