Guest guest
Dear all, Namaskarams. Hope and believe that all members remember my earlier write up on PV Kalathur. I would like to request all the members to go thro' the following lines and try to help the holy cause and take HIS blessings. Why it is called Pon Vilaintha Kalathur? It is said that Sri Thoopul Nigamantha Mahadesikan once passed through this village on his way to Thiruvahindirapuram. During the stay in a groundnut merchant’s house, he did not have anything to offer to his personal deity Lord Sri Hayagreevar [The God of Wisdom and Knowledge] and so he offered pure water as nivedhanam. In the midnight the merchant was woken up by some sound and when he came out he saw a beautiful white horse eating groundnut from the bags kept by the merchant. When he narrated this the next morning, Sri Desikan confirmed to the merchant that he had not brought any horse with him. When Sri Desikan went out to see the places where the horse was gazing and found golden beads scattered in those places. Sri Desikan understood that this was the act of Sri Hayagreeva and after explaining this to the merchant he continued his journey. As golden beads were showered in the fields, this village got the name Pon [Gold] Udhirndha [scattered] Kalathur, which during the course of time has become Pon Vilaintha Kalathur. As if to confirm this, the husk of the harvested gold were found two kilometers away from this place is called Pon Padhar Kootam. History of the Temple In such a historical place, Sri Pattabi Ramar Temple was built more than 700 years ago. About 600 years back, the Sixth Jeeyar of Sri Ahobila Mutt, Sri Shashta Parankusa Yatheendra Mahadesikan had renovated the temple and established six agraharams. PV Kalathur is one of the six agraharams. As the agraharam was established by the great Acharya, it was titled as Parankusapura Agraharam. The 35th Jeeyar of Ahobila Mutt hailed from this village and is known as Kalathur Azhagiyasingar. Hundred years back an old person in this Agraharam dreamt of God informing HIS presence in a well inside Sri Kothanda Ramar Temple and the idol should be recovered and a temple be built. Next day morning they found a beautiful three foot idol of Lord Rama in the well. At the base of the idol some Yanthram and notings about Sri Tiruppullani were inscribed. Thinking that some temples in deep south might have hidden this idol for fear of threat from other religious fanatics. But none of the temples addressed reported any theft of their idols in the past. Therefore it was decided to build a temple in this agraharam itself. With help of former MP Sri.RT Parthasarathy, grandson of freedom fighter Salem Vijayaraghavachariar, who belonged to this village, local people and other dharmikas the Dhrabasayana Sethuramar temple was constructed and the samprokshanam was presided by over by The 44th Jeer of Sri Ahobila Mutt [Mukkur Azhagiyasingar] in 1977. As per Aagama Sastras Samprokshanam has to be done once in 12 years. Unfortunately for the past 27 years no samprokshanam has been performed. APPEAL Therefore to reestablish the glorious tradition with the HIS blessings and support of philanthropic members it is proposed to undertake renovation of the temple including the gopuram and perform samprokshanam. The Sabha earnestly appeals to contribute your mite for successful completion of this holy task and obtain the blessings of Sri Dharbasayana Sethuramar. Contributions may please be sent favoring Sri Kothandaramar & Dharbasayanasethuramar Kainkarya Sabha to any of the following addresses.
