SrImathE ranga rAmAnuja mahA dEsikAya namaha SrImathE SrinivAsa rAmAnuja mahA dEsikAya namaha SrImathE vEdAntha rAmAnuja mahA dEsikAya namahaSrI ranganAtha Divya maNi pAdhukAbhyAm namahaDear Bhagavathas,Wednesday Mar. 28th, 2007(Panguni- Pushyam) is the 100thThirunakshtram day (Sathamaana Uthsavam) of one of the greatest luminary anddistinguished AchAryA of Srirangam Srimath AndavanPeriAsramam, Srimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan – SrivEdAntha rAmAnuja mahA dEsikan, who took SrirangamSrimath Andavan periAsramam to dizzy heights of growthspreading it literally across length and breadth ofthe country.Adiyen is reproducing my earlier postings done a few years ago on the life history of this mahAn commencing with the first volume today. This has

beencompiled from Panguni Pushyam malar(1981) during 74thbirthday celebrations of H.H. Srimath ThirukkudanthaiAndavan(Kannan swamigal) and Andavan Asramam varalarupublished in 1967 by Srirangam pEriAsramam.======================================================Let us all recite this mahan's thaniyan on Histhirunakshatram day.Srimath vEdhAntha rAmAnuja munikarunAlabdha vEdhAnthayugmamSrimath SrivAsa yogeeswara gurupadhayOrarpithaswAthmabhAramSrimath Sri ranganAthAhvaya munikrupayA prApthamOkshasramam thamSrimath VEdhAntha rAmAnuja munimaparam samsrayEdEsikEndram======================================================Among all the Alwars, Thirumangai Alwar also known asKaliyan is the one who has sung praises on most of thearchAvatArAs of the 108 Divya dEsams. All of his“AruLicheyalgaLs” are considered to be a treasure oftamil literature and also as the essence of

vEda.Such a great AlwAr when experiencing thirukkudanthaiemperumAn, is trying to sing praise of the beauty, theimportance and the significance of emperumAn’spadukas. But he is not able to do it. The AlwAr whoperformed “sarvAttha grahaNam” at the feet ofemperumAn feels very despondent at his inability todo so and surrenders at the feet of the Lord. In oneof his pAsurams, kaliyan describes both emperumAn’sgreat virtues and his inadequacy to experience suchvirtues..“ Moovaril mudhalvanAya oruvanai ulagam kondaKOvinai kudanthai mEya kurumaNith thiraLaiInbap pAvainai pachchaith thEnai paimponnai amararSennipPoovinai pughazhum thondar ensollip pugazhvarthAmE….”Kaliyan is awe struck to find words and sing praise ofArAvamudhan. As AzhwAr says, “PonnAr sArngamudaiyaadigaLai innArenru ariyEn”, it wasn’t surprising atall seeing the towering stature of Amudhan, kaliyangot totally mesmerised

admiring emperumAn’s thiruuruvam. Kaliyan feels very helpless not able to drinkmAdhuryAmrutham of emperumAn that flowed from kudamooku. In the same vein, it is impossible for one to singpraise of Srimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan’s divyacharitham because of his immeasurable greatness. Itprompts one to think that Thirukkudanthai SrimathAndavan was a manifestation of emperumAn’s mAdhuryamand all His kalyanA gunAs and hence took birth in thesannidhi of Amudhan to protect loka bhagavathas.AvatAramSrimath Thirukkudanthai Andavan was in the born in asmall hamlet called “ kArukudi”( situated next toThirukkandiyur in Tanjore district) in the banks ofriver KavEri in the year 1908 to Sri. U.Ve.PadmanAbhachAriar and Sri. Komalavalli dEvi. He wasborn on the auspicious day of pushyam in the month ofPanguni. The signs were very auspicious at the time ofHis birth. His father was a parama EkAnthi

and had full belssingsof his AchAryA. He used to visit Srirangam periAsramamregularly to participate in the pArAyana ghoshti ofAchArya Thirunakshtra mAhOtsavams . At that time,Srimath kAdandEthi Andavan was adorning the AchAryapeetam of the periAsramam. He was a great mahAn whowas an exponent of yogic sAstrAs, and posessed all thedivine mAntric powers. A mahAn who had the full anddirect blessings of Lord Sri HayagreevA.It was in the year 1907 during the mAsi-pushyamthirunakshatram celebrations of Srimath periAndavan,Sri. U.Ve. padmanAbhAchAriAr and Sri. U.Ve. EyunnivaradAchAr swAmi( who later became SrimathNammAndavan) had visited periAsramam. After thecompletion of vaibhavam, they had stayed for a coupleof more days to take part in the nithya kainkarayam. One of those days during the evening time, SrimathkAdanthEthi Andavan called for both of them and toldSri. PadmanAbhAchAr swAmi that he will have

a son whowill be born on a pushyam day and told Sri.VaradAchAr swAmi that he will also have a son who willbe born on a hastham day. As predicted by swAmi, bothof them had sons born on the same janma nakshatrams.(To be continued....)
