Guest guest
Dear all who plan to visit Thiruppullani for Sethu yathra, Eventhough many do not experience any difficulty, adiyen notice some sevarthis, due to their lack of geographical idea of this part of Tamil Nadu do not plan their visits suitably and thereby either miss to visit nearby Divya Desams or put to travel many a kilometer unnecessarily wasting their time, energy and money. To help them I add this note. Please check up this map Thiruppullani, situated 8KMs south of Ramanathapuram (PLEASE NOTE NOT RAMESWARAM) the district headquaters of Ramanathapuram District. It can be reached BY TRAIN: At present only one train Sethu Express is being operated between Chennai and Rameswaram. It starts from Chennai by 5 P.M. And reaches Ramanathapuram by 4 A.M. Next morning. May be by the end of June 2008, on completion of gauge conversion works from Mana madurai to Karaikkudi are over, several trains may be operated. Please note that Rameswaram is 60 Kms away from Ramanathapuram. Get down at Ramanathapuram.(Many unknowingly go upto Rameswaram and return back.) Just in front of Station, town buses will be waiting for the passangers. Route nos 1, 5, 17 and 10 (prominantly displaying Thiruppullani Temple) will bring you here within 20 mts. Autos and taxis are also available and without any hesitation or suspicion (as it is an odd hour for strangers) they can be hired. Autos charge Rs. 100 to 120 and taxis around Rs 200. From Madurai there are are three trains, by 6AM, by 5.30Pm and by 11PM. You can plan accodingly. By BUS: Ramanathapuram is well connected from almost all district headquarters and for those coming from Chennai, plenty of Omni buses and State corporation Ultra Delux buses are availble to Ramanathapuram. They start from 4.30PM to 8PM.from Koyambedu terminus. Normally the state owned buses reach Ramanathapuram atleast before 7.30AM the private buses normally reach only by 10AM or even after that. If you come by omni bus please prepare to spend a day here as having a holy dip at Sethu and Perumal Sevai may be difficult. Those coming from Coimabatore or Bangalore side you have to come via Madurai and at Madurai ,either from Railway station or from Arappalayam bus stand, please go to the central bus stand (Mattuthavani) from where every five minutes a bus starts for Ramanathapuram. Those coming by bus or in their own vehicles via Trichy or Madurai can suitably plan to visit Thirumayam and Thirukkoshtiyur en route Thiruppullani and stay at Thiruppullani in the evening and can have Perumal sevai next morning. If time permits you can visit Nava Thiruppa this from here. Just four hours journey but the roads are being laid only now and so may not be comfortable for travelling by modern cars. (By bus no problem) At Srimad Andavan Ashramam you can conveniently stay. At Sri Ahobila Mutt and Sri Vanama malai mutt also they provide rooms. For those who shun paraannam Andavan Ashramam provides thathiyonnam (or on request some ohorais). For others two Srivaishnava families take care of. As adiyen frequently meet sevarthis confusing between Rameswaram and Ramanatha puram and thereby put themselves needless trouble, this information is provided. Those with full knowledge may kindly excuse me. And those who are yet to visit this “Saranagatha Kshethram†please come atleast once in your lifetime. A Sthala slokam says “ One can count the stars in the sky; one can count the sand in the whole world but even that thousand-tongued AdhiSesha can not count the puNyam one receives even at the mere sight of Adhi Sethu here†Come and enjoy that “villAl ilangai malanka charam thurantha vallALan†dasan, T.Raguveeradayal
