The general word chosen , Priest , covers a lot of groups : Archakaas ( Aagamaa expets , Bruhaspathys/UpAdhyAyam and those trained in Vedic PaatasAlAs . All these groups can have Vedic training at PaatasAlAs .In the old days , Bruhaspathys were fully trained in one or more Veda SaakhAs and made sure that the YajamAnan recited the Veda Mantrams in Vaidhika Kaaryams with the proper swarams . Today , it is a different story , where the successful Bruhaspathy has a cell phone driven assembly of helpers to cover their markets . Still , there are some Bruhaspathys , who are faithfully following the Vedic traditions . Please support Veda PaatasAlAs. Adopt one student and act as his mentor as he prgresses . There are as many poor girls as there are boys from poor Families , which send some times the boys as a last resort to PaatasAlAs . Please invest in the poor girl's education as well . It is really women and their piety , which has instilled Aasthika Buddhi in their children . Please visit the dhivya dEsams and other abodes where the Lord and His PirAttis are worshipped . Attend utsavams to get infused with the spirit of celebrations of both the VedAs and dhivya Prabhandhams . Set aside a small portion of your earnings to serve your AchAryAs , who strive day in and day out to provide us guidance in spiritual matters and SaastrAs . Their sacrifices for us are beyond description . Let us not forget the misery of the dowry system which has ruined many girl's and their parents' lives . It is a shame to see that boys with good education from educated families stand silent , when their parents drive the dowry bargain to the hilt . I am amazed that the boys do not tell their parents that he has enough earning capacity and does not need a dowry for the sake of proving his mettle in the marriage market . The world will be a better place if their is a ground swell in the courage of our young bride grooms to seek their brides without listening to the sound of money . If these hard bargains and once again shameful ones , cease , the parents wont mind having girl children . There are so many social ills that we have to tackle while we address the issues related to the girls not choosing the tradionalist for marriage . On another matter , Please learn at least Pancha Sooktams , even if you can not spend few years at a paatasAla to master one Saakha of the Vedams . You will atleast have Veda Sambhandham .In your spare time , you can learn more from a Vedic scholar . Udhaga Saanthi mantrams will be a good start . Acchidhram , AswamEdham , Kaatakam will be wonderful discrete Veda mantrams to master for use during EkAdasi , DhvAdasi times . You can listen to the above mantrams at Ahobila Matam on the EkAdasi and dhvAdasi days and will be captivated by the Veda dhvani . Many of you have sent in valuable comments and provided clear analysis about the problems why girls wont marry or girl's parents with their own concerns about their daughter's material prosperity will not let them marry unless they are IT Experts or Engineers or MDs . This will go on . The only way to address this problem is to succeed in the material world and at the same time have necessary education on the side on our Vedic traditions , while supporting Veda PaatasAlAs to generate studnets with more than sampradhAyic curriculum . I will close the discussions now in the Oppiliappan and the other lists I moderate .You are welcome to send me private mails so that we can explore practical ways to address the concerns . Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathas, Very appropriate - Many years ago, adiyen had the privilege to pen an article " Sanskrit Patasalas - A Long Term Vision " that was slightly controversial. Adiyen has raised the issue " who amongst us would give our daughters away in Kannikadhanam to these tufted gents? " . That question is relevant today also. It will be even more topical twenty years hence. Unless, long/short tufts become the fashion of the day by then!! Sri Sadagopan's appeal to support the Veda Patasalas is unexceptionable, Every SriVaishnavaite should come forward and contribute his/her mite. The controversy arose when one fairly religious gent suggested that all our efforts to run the Veda Patasalas may become infructuous, Eventually all these Adhyayis would go for upaadhyayam only. Adiyen replied that, even so, this would be a great service that Srimath Andavan Veda Patasalas would render to the community at large, Most of the current crop of Vadhyars have not completed even Padam - Kramaantha Adhyayanam. If the Asramam Veda Patasalas would turn out Adhikaris with at least Padam, then that would be very great improvement to start with!! Warmest Regards Daasan RR _____________________________ On Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 9:43 AM, Srinivasan Rangaswamy <r_sv wrote: I am sharing with our members a very thought provoking message from Dr. Sadagopan, which is worth known to every Sri Vaishnavaite family.
