Let us pay our obeisance to Swami Nammazhwar' Swami Desikan prabandham Paramapatha bhangam – 2nd verse says: vidun^eRiyanchi vidath thodakkiya vithiyaradainthu thozhaththa zhaiththathezhu vizhiyaruL thanthu vilakkadikkaLai virakiliyampi vilakki vaiththanar koduvinaiyen pathanaith thinaiththanai koNar_tha likantha kuNaththanaththinar kurukaiyil vanthu kozhuppadakkiya kulapathi thantha kuRippil vaiththanar kadun^arakan pugazhaRRi maRRoru kathi peRumanpilemaip poruththinar kamalaiyugantha kadaR kidaikkadal karuNai yuyarnthathidark korukkinar padumuthalinRi vaLarththa naRkalai palapalavonRa vemakkuraiththanar pazha maRaiyanthi nadaik kidaichchuvar paramathamenRathidiththa paththarE. Considering other religions and non-vedic and avaideeka sampradayams, as the walls and hurdles for the Vedanta maarga, those walls Idittha patthar- were torn apart by ardent devotees, our unparalleled acharyas; Vidu neRi anji – feeling scared to enter into the forbidden track of wrong path in lives; Vidath thodakkiya – beginning to discard of (those wrong paths); Vidhiyar- such fortunate and blessed ones (we are); Adaindhu thozha – in order to save us – (acharyas made themselves so easily accessible for us to prostrate their feet; Thazhaitthu yezha – grows further more and more aruLvizhi thandhu- they gave us (their merciful glances) with their parama krupai; vilakku adi – those that need to be dispelled (those paapams that are hurdles for getting higher and grander fruits) kaLai – the weeds (paapams) iyambi- (acharyas) explained to us (all of those things in lucid manner) with daya; vilakki -thus by explaining, they kept us out of such wrong paths and paapams viragil vaitthanar – (based on our qualifications and capacities), made us follow the prescribed easier paths (those greatest acharyas) kodu vinai enpadhanai – cruel karmic diseases and deeds thinaitthanai koNardhal igandha – not an iota of such deeds approach them; these acts are brushed aside; guNathanatthinar – being possessed of wealth of most auspicious sattvika guNas; kurugaiyil vandhu – Took avathAram in the divine place of Thirukkuruhoor; kozhuppu adakkiya – (other mathasthars’- religions’) (futile attempts) were tamed by (the sreesookthis- works of) kulapathi thandha – the path and works laid out by and shown by Swami Nammazhwaar kuRippil vaitthanar – these acharyas placed us in (the essence of path shown by Nammazhwar) kadu naraku – the cruel nakaram is caused by paapa karmas anu kazhaRRi- removing and getting us rid of attachment to such karmas and love for such karmas (these merciful acharyas) maRRoru gathi peRum anbil – To attain the “other†destination, and love for it emmaip porutthinar – made us in it (that path with love) kamalai ugandha – The One who is so loving and endearing to PiraaTTi Sri Mahalakshmi; kadalkidaikadal – The ocean of compassion, daya- Sriman Narayanan reclining in the ocean of milk; (blue hued ocean reclining on white milky ocean) karuNai uyarndha thidarkku – The upper (zenith) region i.e. personification of Daya, and kripa of Sriman Narayanan orukkinar – placed us under His Lotus Feet padumudhal inRi – that which has no end or no reason for perishing; vaLarndha – that which has grown always from strength to strength palapala naRkalai- the very many vidyas onRa emakku uraitthanar- imparted to us so that those are understood by us well and rightly Summary: The other religions were standing like the blocks for the right and unparalleled vaideeka sampradaya. Those walls were torn open by our unparalleled merciful acharyas – ardent devotees of Sriman Narayanan- thorugh their works aand sree sookthis and winning over the opponents. Such greatest acharyas- we are able to identify and feeling scared of our own paapams and attempting to get rid of such paapams, we approached them for saving us. We are so fortunate and blessed. They showered us first with their merciful glances. They explained to us in details what are the worng paths and why we should get rid of them as well dislike doing or falling in love with such deeds. They made us do some good deeds and act on right path. They ensured that we don’t accrue any more of our paapams – such most auspicious attributes they are possessed with. GuNa paripoorNar. They made us follow the right and wonderful path laid out so beautifully by our Kula pathi – Prapanna jana santhAna kootasthar- Swami Nammazhwar. They made us have intense desire to take the path that would enable us attain mokshaanubhavam. They made us recipient of the daya of Swami our dearest Lord Sriman Narayanan- the blue hued ocean of compassion, who reclines on while milky ocean- the one who is endearing to Sri Mahalakshmi. They taught us ever truthful vishayams of Bhagawaan. Such great upakarams – our unparalleled acharyas have done for us.
