Guest guest
Hi Krishnabhaktas, I have added about 43 names to the VMS mailing list bringing the total number of people on the list to around 60. Dr. Kurudi Muralidhar (muralik) and Yellimelli Srinivas are the list administrators. I want to thank them for taking on the list administration duties. You can also add or delete yourself from the list by going to www. and registering yourself. You can contact the list administrators at -owner . The objectives of the list are to: * Discuss the issues related to VMS news, organization and people. *Activities of the various VMS chapters. *Issues related to religious observance and practice of the mAdhva religion.etc. I see the VMS list and the CMS lists compliementary to each other. Your ideas on how the two lists should compliment and enhance each other are welcome. News announcements: Among the news items, Mr. Narasimha Nayak and party are touring the US. For those of you who don't know him, Mr. Nayak is a very popular singer of devaranamas and Kannada bhavagIthEs. He has recorded scores of cassettes. He told me that he has taken interest in collecting devaranamas of various dasas in the parampara. He has collected about 50,000 songs. He has recorded in recent cassettes, many of the songs from dasas like Mahipathi dasa and other dasas which we may not be familiar with. If you are interested, You can arrange a devaranama concert in your area by contacting the tour coordinator Suresh Hosakoppal (suresh.hosakoppal ). You need to do this quickly as most of the program is booked up already. VMS Washington chapter is arranging a devaranama only concert on November 20th, a Friday night. Dr. Balaji Hebbar is giving a lecture on the three vedantic systems on November 6th afternoon in Newjersey. For details, please contact Dr. M.G. Prasad, (mprasad) or Prasad Bhargava (bargava). VMS Washington Chapter is arranging a course on comparative study of three vedantic systems by Dr. Balaji Hebbar starting on Sunday November 1st.. The course will be on Sunday afternoons between 2 and 4 PM in Chinmaya mission in Silverspring, MD. Please contact Gopi Boray ( GBoray ) or myself for details. Mr. Sathyanarayana is making plans for a VMS conference for the west coast in November. I request him to make announcement here when the program is complete. Projects: ======= Sri Suresh Maddur told me that he does a condensed version of the devara pooja in about 20 minutes in the morning before going to work. I have requested Suresh Maddur and Sri Galagali to share this version with this group. We are planning to put the details in the Web site. We all can share our experiences and practice of religious events with others in the list. I have learnt many things by talking to people about pooja practices. WE can all share and grow together. I request similar sharing of netters experiences in poojas and other useful tips to the list. Another item that we can share is what kind of religious practices and training that we should give to our children. How often do recommend that children recite and learn stotras stories etc. More on this in one of the next mails. Web site improvements: ================= Phanidra Mankale and other Web masters are working on adding matrimonial sections to the Web site. We need to add the excellent VMS conference report of sri Narahari pujar to the Web site. If any of you have taken photographs, please scan it and send it to the Web masters. We can put it in the Web site. I received comments that it is better to get domain name for the VMS web site. the current Web site address is cumbersome and error prone. It costs about $70 to register and set it up for two years. I propose the domain name of .org giving a URL of www..org. Please let me know if you have any comments about this. We also need to improve the Web site gradually. We need Add more photos, information to the Web site. Any ideas are always welcome. List: ----- I have made the List archives private. This means that only the rs can have access to the archives. They are available at www.. Spread the word: ============ Please inform your friends and ask them join the list. If they don't have Web access, they can E-mail to list administrators at -owners . That is all for now. Please share information, news, questions and concerns. We can all benefit from the exchange of information. Can we use an alias (vms.org) as well? While it would be good to have the full name, it would make things a little simpler. This would apply to the e-mail address as well (vms ). Thoughts? >We also need to improve the Web site gradually. We need Add more photos, >information to the Web site. Any ideas are always welcome. > >List: >----- >I have made the List archives private. My recollection is that was not decided on. Any updates here? A thing about newsletters. We talked about having the newsletter distributed. We have one out now (prior to the VMS conference). Should that be distributed? We should establish a semi-formal procedure to distribute that. Hari

More on that later. Yes, I agree. I have out lined few principles above. We should look at how the listsand the organizations can avoid duplication and enhance each other. We need more discussion on this. > > > > > > >Dr. Balaji Hebbar is giving a lecture on the three vedantic systems on > >November 6th afternoon in Newjersey. For details, please contact Dr. > >M.G. There are other examples like washingtonpost.com which spell out the whole name. > > > I have had questions regarding any membership fee to be a member of VMS. > My recollection is that was not decided on. Any updates here? > In the conference, the discussion ended with the decision that no membership fees at this time. We decided to keep the costs low be absorbed by the volunteers as much as possible within certain limits. I will leave it upto the volunteers, but it is my feeling any costs below $10 should be absorbed by the volunteers. I know that many members have absorbed far greater costs, and I want to thank them for that. This leaves the question of regular source of funds for VMS, if we have to do some big projects. My suggestion would be have a voluntary membership or some form of tithing from members. We are all very fortunate to be born into this glorious tradition and Tithing is a way of thanking and paying our debt (R^iNa) to the mAdhva society and religion. I want to thank Dr. Balaji Hebbar who has donated all the income from his classes, books etc. to the VMS. It is indeed a valuable and selfless donation. > A thing about newsletters. We talked about having the newsletter > distributed. We have one out now (prior to the VMS conference). Should > that be distributed? We should establish a semi-formal procedure to > distribute that. Yes. The decision at the conference was to distribute the newsletter electronically to each of the coordinators in various centers. It is upto the coordinators to print, copy and the distribute the newsletters in temples and/or at various religious events in their city. This is a low-cost solution to newsletter distribution for now. > > > Hari > > Thanks for bringing up these important issues and stimulating the discussion. Let us hear from other members in this regard.
