Guest guest
Hi VaishNavas, I want to mention the recent events of lectures on Indian Philosophy arranged by various VMS volunteers in the Mid-Atlantic area over the last month. Dr. Balaji Hebbar, the VMS education coordinator, is tirelessly doing these lectures to educate the people interested Indian Philosophy. I want to thank him for his wonderful efforts on behalf of VMS. It is a tremendous opportunity hear his lectures which provide Indian philosophical knowledge delivered in a western academic style. The information is very unique and powerful. I urge all the members to hear his lectures. The talks and courses also bring out the beauty, consistency and the intellectual power of mAdhva Philosophy. He is the most eloquent spokesman for mAdhva Philosophy in this country. He is willing to travel to other cities to do the courses over a weekend, if people are willing to arrange his lectures. * On November 21st, Dr. M.G. Prasad arranged a summary lecture on three vedantic systems in NJ. Lecture was well attended by people knowledgeable and interested in Indian Philosophy. * VMS chapter in Washington DC area is arranging two courses. First course is on Survey of Indian Philosophical systems. Second course is on Comparative study of Three vedantic systems. The courses are going on right now. We are planning to have audio cassettes of the course and the course notes available through VMS for a donation for interested people from outside Washington. Courses are being arranged jointly with the Chinmaya mission using their facilities. * On December 19th, this Friday, Mr. Prasad Bhargava is arranging a summary lecture on three vedantic systems in the Cherry Hill, NJ. Please contact him at bargava. Unfortunately, I don't have his phone number with me right now. Perhaps, Mr. Bhargava or other volunteers can follow up with the logistical details for the meeting. Here is a summary course description of the Indian Philosophy course/seminar: This course will deal with the Philosophical aspects of the three great classical religions of India- Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. After a brief cultural and historical introduction, the lectures will make a systematic analysis of the six major philosophical schools of classical Hinduism (Nyaya-Vaisheshika, Samkhya-yoga,Mimamsa, Sankara-Vedanta, Ramanuja-vedanta and Madhva-vedanta). The course will also cover Jainism and Buddhism. The analysis of the above mentioned schools will be done in the traditional six-fold method of study of each school. The six areas of investigation are: Epistemology (Theory of Knowledge), Ontology(Theory of nature of being), Theology, Cosmology(Theory of the Universe), Psychology(Study of Soul and mind) and Soteriology(Doctrine of Salvation). Each of the schools presents its own answers to the six areas, which then essentially forms the world view of that particular school.
