Here is a report on sri vidyabhushana's Washington DC visit.

 

Sri vidyabhushana arrived in Washington on Saturday 5/1. He attended

a ugadi function by Kaveri Kannada association and gave a brief speech

on Ugadi. Speech was brief, but enjoyable. He talked about Ugadi and

renewal of nature during that period. He also said that celebrations

like Ugadi should make us think about spiritual sadhana. Upon audience

request, he also sang a devara nama without any accompaniments. It was

wonderful to hear the magic sri vidyabhushana can work just with his

voice and music. It had the audience spell bound.

 

On Sunday, VMS chapter of Washington had arranged a short concert and

talk by sri vidyabhushana. Unfortunately

for the krishNabhaktas of Washington, sri vidyabhushana could only sing

for half an hour. He was suffering from a cold and throat congestion.

Still, the half an hour was filled with devotional, blissful music. The

whole atmosphere in the room was filled with palpable devotion.

 

sri vidyabhushaNa's personality: sri vidyAbhushaNa is very unassuming,

spiritual person with a sense of inner calm . It is hard to find

somebody with absolutely no ego for a performer of his caliber and

popularity. He patiently answered everybody's questions with patience

and sincerity. As with all spiritual persons, you gain and learn a lot

in many ways by just being near him.

 

Summary of his speeches and answers: This is a brief summary of his

speeches and answers. Any errors in transcription are mine. He said that

most important thing a spiritual sadhaka can do is " anusandhAna " that

all the work is dedicated to sri Hari and see sri Hari as " antaryAmi " in

all other gods, human beings and animals. He described the several kinds

of " flowers " that a sadhaka can offer to the Lord. They are truth,

ahimsa, kindness to others, bhakti, dhyana etc.(I have not captured all

of them). Pooja of a sadhaka can be as simple as possible. Real tears of

devotion of a sadhaka is the dearest thing to the Lord.

 

Music CDs: All the CDs that sri vidyabhushaNa has brought with him are

excellent. I want to mention one in particular. CD called sri

venkateshwara suprabhatam. Along with sri venkateshwara suprabhatam,

this CD contains Sri vidyabhushana's rendition of selection from sri

vadiraja's Theertha prabhandam containing verses on Tirupathi. This song

alone is worth the price of the CD. Singing is melodious and sri

vadiraja's shlokas come to life in a serene & devotional atmosphere. The

CD also contains several other excellent shlokas.
