Volunteer discussions from the VMS conference

Hi KrishNabhaktas,

I want to brief you on the volunteer discussions that took place

late into the night at sri Srinivasa Bhat's house after the formal end

of the conference.

 

* There was a round of introductions with several discussions woven

into it. Sri GopalakrishNa Varna said that he was attracted to

Chinmaya mission when he came to Detroit, because he could not find

any mAdhva activities. He said that Chinmaya mission activities are

very structured and we should try to emulate them. I tend to agree

and we should try to emulate " best of breed " practices from other

religious organizations, even though to reach Chinmaya mission

level needs a lot more effort, planning and resources. That should

be our long term goal. It is heartnening to note the number of

regularly occurring structured mAdhva religious activities

happenning in Washington DC, Detroit and Sanfransisco areas. We

need to do more particularly in the area of children's activities.

* There was a discussion on where to hold the next conference.

Several places were discussed, Newjersey and Philadelphia areas

were mentioned. Pittsburgh seemed to hold attraction to lot of

people because of its central location and the venkateshwara

temple. There are serious logistical problems in holding a

conference at Pittsburgh because no VMS volunteer lives there.

Srinivasan GV and Jayakrishna are going to look at this

possibility.

* There was some discussion of moving the VMS web site to a

commerical site. We have received quite a few complaints about the

quality of the free web site that we have currently. This issue is

being investigated.

 

I will post a detailed description of the various projects various VMS

volunteers are doing little bit later.

 

BTW, there is a smaller E-mail list to discuss the various VMS

volunteer projects in detail. If any of you are interested in helping

out, let me know.
