Guest guest
Dear MadhvabAndhavas: It is such a great pleasure to see so many people eager for receiving the upadesha of the NArAyan.ASTAkSarI mantra. As the ParAshara SmRti says: tApaH pun.DarastathA nAma mantro yAgastathaivaca amIhi pan~casamskAra vaiSn.avAnAm visheSataH " The 5 heated seals of the symbols of ViSn.u, the 12 marks of the gopIcandana paste on the body, the recitation of the 1000 names of ViSn.u, the repitition of the mantras of ViSn.u and the saligrAma pUjA, these 5 sacraments indeed are the speciality of the VaiSn.avas. " Let us VaiSn.avas practice these 5 samskAras in addition to the 16 samskAras we share in common with other Hindus to keep the sanAtana dharma alive. All of us must receive these 5 sacraments from our gurus. There is only one family that I know who can administer taptamudrA to themselves. They are the NUrittAyas of Yerki in Puttur tAluk who were given a Keshava idol by ShrImadAcArya for the special assistance they rendered him during his tour in that area. They are one of the 6 families blessed by ShrImadAcArya with an idol. In every one of these 6 families, the pUjA to these idols is conducted with the same detail and discipline as to the idols of the aSTamaThas of UDupi. In fact, the aSThamaThAdhipatis who normally never worship any other mUrtis other than those of the 8 maThas, conduct worship to the idols of these 6 fortunate families whenever they visit them as they are touched by shrImadAcArya himself. How blessed indeed are they! Hari-VAyu smaran.a B.N. Hebbar
