Guest guest
Dear Friends: HH 1008 Sugun.endra TIrtha ShrIpAdAcAryaru informed us in his speech as to how the NyAyasudhA of Jaya TIrtha and the Rukmin.Isha Vijaya of VAdirAja TIrtha were the 2 works which were put on the canopy atop an elephant and paraded around. In this connexion, I would like to comment on the Rukmin.Ishavijaya which was written with a mangaLanAma as against the amangalanAma of MAgha's work, the ShishupAlavadhA. What an inauspicious title compared to Rukmin.Ishavijaya (sounds much more pleasant)! It reminds me of how VAlmIki among the 3 options chose the mangaLa title of RAmAyan.a instead of either SItAyAshcarita or the wholly amangaLa title PaulastyavadhA. kAvyam rAmAyan.am kRtsnam sItAyAshcaritam mahat paulastyavadhamityevam cakAra caritavrataH (RAmAyan.a BAlakAn.Da 4:7) " The poem of RAma's wanderings, the great story of SItA and the story of the slaying of Paulastya.
