Guest guest
Hello friends, As pointed out by others earlier, Mr.XXXX has done some mistakes/assumptions/misunderstanding on certain basic concepts. However, I feel that summarising his questions and then answering would be better than ignoring them altogether. IMO, the gist of his mail could be put as this - " There is no archaelogical evidence that the events in Ramayana have happened in reality. It is quite probable that all that is false because of the superhuman feats attributed to normal human beings and because well-known archaelogists have discarded the existence of the characters and places as mentioned in Hindu scriptures. I have taken the example of Ramayana, but the other scriptures could be equally false because of similar/same reasons. Given that highly qualified professional archaelogists/historians have 'proved' that the 'facts' mentioned in the testaments have really happened, the Christian scriptures have greater credibility than hindu scriptures. So, isn't Christianity truer than Hinduism? " I am sure most of us can answer these questions. My response would be - The assumption that one needs archaeological evidence is unwarranted. Scriptures, atleast Hindu, are niether history text books nor some books with predictions. Their domain is different. They give knowledge about God, morals, right/wrong etc. The above statement and the validity of the knowledge given by them will become self-evident upon sincere study with the various other pre-requisites met. No other evidence is needed. Since the whole discussion ends in the Vedas being self-evident, one cannot talk about its veracity without studying them. Secondly, Archaelogy is not conclusive. IMO, it relies heavily upon the evolution theory, which itself is discarded by many scientists. Regarding the Christian scriptures having more credibility, it depends on how biased you are. You can collect/look for facts/scientists which/who either discard Biblical notions or which support them. However, a sincere rationalist, IMO, would discard any theory which says all this matter and souls were created out of nothing; that the all powerful God took 7 full days to create this universe; that theory which does not explain why some souls have an inclination for the spirit, while some for Satan; etc...
