Dear Fellow Madhvas,

IF SONIA Gandhi is a foreigner then the Hindu law must be changed

because according to Hindu law a marriage is not a mere civil contract but a

sacrament (sanskar) or purificatory ceremony performed for religious

purpose and intended to continue even after death. It is a holy union

between a man and woman for begetting a son necessary for salvation and

for the performance of religious duties.

A Hindu marriage is indissolvable in life and so far as the wife is concerned

even after the death of husband she cannot shed her status of wife. In Hindu

law the wife loses her legal status and the identity of the wife is completely

merged into the personality of husband and for all practical purposes they

are one. The marriage is not only a marital relationship but the wife goes to

her husband to create a family, shedding all her individual status even the

Gautra. Those who are calling Sonia Gandhi a foreigner are abusing the

sruti(Vedas), the smirti, the Puranas and the Nibandhas which are the

sources of Hindu law. Those calling her a foreigner do not know about

Hinduism, the culture and traditions of this country. -- ZAFAR AIJAB

I don't think this is worth discussing. But you need

to know that Sati Sahagamana is also part of Hindu

tradition (I don't know if there is any pramana

but....)I think Sonia Gandhi should have entered Rajiv

Gandhi's pyre and gone with him :-)
