There is a misinformation by one of VMS members about Madhwa Navami.

According to Udupi panchAnga madhwa navami comes in January after

Makara Sankranti. It is celebrated in Udupi as a row of 3 event -

raTha sapthami, BEshmastami and maDhwa navami. Please correct this.

Ashweejamasa shuklapaksha calendar

10-10-99 to 24-10-1999

MADHWA CALENDAR

Sri Pramaathinama Samvatsara DakshinaayaNe,

Sharad Rutu, Ashweeja Maase, Shuklapakshe

Maasa Niyaamaka: Shri PadmanaaBhaaya Namah.

Navaratri: Navarathri celebration has a distinct message to convey,

i e to

bring eternal bliss to every jeeva through " Sadhana " . These 9 days

are

special days of Shakthi pooja. The various forms of goddess Durga are

worshipped on the nine days.

" Durga destroys evil and so on the first three days she is worshipped

..If

done, good qualities of head and heart grow automatically when

Mahalaksmi is

worshipped during the second part of Navarathri. Such a " Sathvic "

person

with pure conduct seeks to go on the spiritual path through divine

knowledge

or Jnana. This stage is attained by devout worship of Saraswathi, the

Godess

of knowledge, on the last three days. A Jnaani later becomes an

Aparoksha

Jnaani and ultimately experience eternal bliss. This is the esoteric

meaning

of Navarathri " .- from News letter Oct 99- Sri Madhwacharya Seva

Sangha,

Chennai-78.

During these days, is also performed Saraswathi Pooja, Ayudha pooja,

worship

of elephants, horses and weapons, machine, Tools etc and so on also

..

Special worship is conducted in the Chamundi Temple of Mysore city.

On

the day of the Uttara Bhadra star, after the days of Navaratri, a

car

procession is held for the goddess.

When the royal family, reigned in Mysore, the Navaratri days were

celebrated

at the Dasara festival which had attracted attention from the world

over for

its glitter and pomp. In north India, Durga Pooja is an important

part of

the Navaratri festival. Just like people in the south and

Maharashtra make

an icon of Ganesha and celebrate the Chathurthi, the northerners,

particularly, the Bengalis, make an icon of Durga, worship her, take

her out

in a procession and finally immerse her in the water of the Ganges.

20 Oct Wed Dashami

i) SHREE MADHWA JAYANTHI( as per Rayar Mutt)

Special Pooja to Sriman Madhwa Chaaryaru

" He is the saint who installed the idol of Sri Krishna at Udipi in

Karnaataka. The philosophy he preached was previously known as

Tatwawaada.

Now known as DWAITA- He lived seven hundred years ago. He boldly said

to a

Muslim King: " By whatever name you may call, God is one. " The

Acharya's

knowledge, scholarship and achievements made him a great savant " -

Bannanje

Govindacharya.

" The supreme specialty and uniqueness of Sri Madhwachaarya and the

Dwaitha

vedantha philosophy are so marvelous that it is impossible to say in

few

words. Or even by a book.

After reading the two works of Sri Madhwacharya on Gita, one can be

happy

and healthy in this world, in thought, culture and peace of mind. The

happiness, which is promised in Heaven, can be enjoyed here, if these

two

unique works are read and understood as per one's capacity. Sri

Madhwacharya

is a great healer and helper of mankind. This aspect can be

appreciated and

enjoyed by these commentaries under each and every verse- The

uniqueness of

Sri Madhwacharys as Guru, Acharya, Preacher, Writer, Follower and

Thinker,

is UNPARALLEL. " - Vidwan Mr T.S. Raghavendran

" Sri Madhwacharya by being a staunch, theist opposed atheism, worship

of

plural Gods, and merging of Gods into one another very vehemently. He

expounded, based on the Vedas, the GOD is one. Since He is the father

of the

universe and Chathurmukha Bramha. He is called " Jagatjanaka " " He

rules,

controls and destroys at the end. The very essence of Vedaantha is

that He

is the cause for everything. As the greatest power He controls all

Jeevas'

desire to live by being within them. By being in the inanimate He

regulates

them as their Antharyaami. He pervades in Aprakritha form in every

object

and propels it to perform its assigned activities. Without His order

even a

blade of grass cannot move. So he is the sovereign of all He surveys.

According to Sri Madhwa, God is not a mass of Sath, Chit and Ananda,

but

made up of qualities such as Janma, Itcha, Kriya. As potter He made

this

world by making use of certain thing and so He is called Nimitha

Kaarana.

Just as Jeeva is different from the body , God by being in this world

is

different from the world. He is not the world nor the world is God.

In

other words He is not Upadana KaaraNa. Mandukopanishad says, " He is

the

Ruler of all. He is omniscient. He is the inner controller of all. He

is the

origin of all s he is the cause of the birth and destruction of all

beings. "

Sri Bhagavad Geetha says (13-28: 18-61) that He is present in the

soul of

every being and in everything that He has created in this Universe.

He

pervades and makes them what they are, by being in every body. He

hears,

sees, listens, thinks, speaks and by being in the heart of hearts,

guides

and leads. He has no birth or death. His body is divine, imperishable

and

not made up of the usual five elements such a body is Aprakritha. He

is

light and bliss. He is MahaVishNu in this world. He is Sarvoththama.

He is

personalized with countless auspicious qualities and a vault of

Supreme

virtues. He is kind and derelict of defects. Human weakness like

incapacity,

sorrow and attachment are not found in Him. He is capable of doing,

undoing

and accomplishing even the most impossible,(Karthum, Akarthum and

Anyadha

Kartham).

Sri Madhwa extolled Sri Vishnu's Sarvothvamathwa and preached that He

alone

sanctions Mukthi and its relation is through Jnana and Bhakthi. In

the line

of Devathaas He is on the top of all. His qualities are infinite

times

greater than those of the human and the Devathas. He is not bound by

Karma.

He is the LORD of all our Karmas. Everything moves according to His

will

though he is not the cause for HIM, He is the cause for all of us. He

is the

creator, controller and destroyer of this creation. So Paramaathma is

the

paramount power, regulating the Jeevas and Gods, transcending the

power of

Prakrithi pervading the entire space, abiding in all things in

Suprenal

forms.

May this message of Sri Madhwacharya whose Jayanthi falls on 19th

OCT,1999, permeate the entire humanity and drive them forward

towards

Divinity " .

2) Sri Vaalmiki Jayanthi-

The RamaayaNa remains a marvel in the literature of the world.

Valmike was

the sage who gave the world this storehouse of realism, wisdom and

compassion.. The saint who wrote " RamayaNa " and taught to Lava-Kusha

was

valmiki.- It is a great epic. This was the very first " Kavya " in

sanskrit.

Therefore it is said as " Adhi Kaavya " and Valmiki is called " Adhi

kavi " .

Valmiki RamayaNa could be sung- When sung it sounds like the sweet

voice of

the cuckoo- Therefore Valmike is called " Kavi Kogile "

After deep discussion with Naradha Maharshi, he was imagining

Ikwaashu

vamsha Thilaka Rama who was the only one who had all the noble

qualities

described by Naradha MahaRshi. He was taking bath in the river Tamasa

with

Shishya Bharadwaja with him and saw two " Krauncha Pakshi " , being

shot by a

hunter and instantly, without any thinking, gave the curse

" Maa Nishaadha PrathiShtaan Twamagamh ShaaShwathih Samaah||

Immediately repented for the first sloka to have come like that. He

came to

the Ahram and started meditating. He felt bad for his action,

anger. He

felt that he should have exercised restraint. Then Brahmha appears

before

him and consoles him saying that intention was behind this sloka and

to

start composing Maha Kaavya.

He was in a dilemma:

(1) what to write

(2) how to write.

He remembered that Brahmah himself had taught the way.

Kuru Raamakathaam PuNyam Sloka Bhadhdhaam Manoramaa-The whole truth

is

behind in these three words. Valmiki felt again a doubt as to how

long his

Kavya would sustain. Bramha says about the life of Ramakatha:

Yavath Sthaasyamthi Girayah|

Sarithaashchyamaheethale||,

So long as the mountains are there, so long the rivers flow in this

world,

that his Kavya would endure. His Kavya and he are remembered as an

immortal Rishi. One can imagine the amount of happiness Valmiki had

at that

time.

The story of Valmike has deep inner meaning. By associating with

good/

learned people, one would learn, practice and become wise. He was

himself an example to others and his life was pure. Association with

Naradha, he became BramhaRshi. He wrote the spelendid epic and people

couldn't forget his great work. People could learn and adjust their

life/attitude by reading the RamayaNa- We cannot forget him for

giving this

great epic. The stories of such great men shed light on our path.

Dear Balu Acharya,

The information given is correct : i.e about Madhwa Jayanthi ( Sri

Madhwacharya's Birth Anniversary which falls on Vijayadashami day)

Madhwanavami is the day Sri Madhwacharya disappeared from this world and

went to BadarikAshrama .
