Guest guest
> krishNa bhaktas, I think it is appropriate to wrap this thread up on a ekAdashi day. I have got comments from readers who didn't want to post directly to the list. I am paraphrasing their comments here. First comment was that this thread was focussing on the physical health aspects of fasting, where as mental concentration, self-control (or indriya nigraha) aspects of ekAdashi should be emphasised. That is a good comment and I want to to emphasise the mental cleanliness that results from fasting. Most people can realize that fasting cleanses their minds. You can easily see this, if you are doing japa and dhyana on ekAdashi or dvadashi days. The main purpose of ekAdashi is to take your mind towards God and fasting helps towards that goal in many ways by cleansing your physical body and your mind. Another member discribed his experiences with ekAdashi in a private E-mail. I am paraphrasing his comments with his permission. This person has been doing ekAdashi from a very young age since his schoool days. He was and is a athletic person who was on the school wrestling team. One day his friend on the wrestling team came to know that he did ekAdashi fasting and challenged him to a wrestling match on ekadashi day. This person accepted and defeated his friend in the wrestling match! This person says that he can do any sort of physical activity on ekAdashi day. This shows to go that with training and will power, these are possible for many people. Finally, I want to mention some thing about E-mail etiquette in replying to messages. Quite a few times we see that people enclose the whole of the previous message while replying. Some times we see the whole thread of messages appended to the reply. This makes the reply hard to read and takes up wasteful space on the PC and the servers. Please enclose only the relevant portions of the previous posting in the E-mails. It is very use to use the " cut and paste " function to do this. Thanks for your co-operation. indhu ninna moreya hokke venkateshane | endhigAdharenna kAyo srinivAsane || Regards, Vasu -- ================================= Vasu Murthy vmurthy ==================================
