Dear Prof. Hebbar and devotees:

 

Thanks for coming up with a highly structured topics. I agree with others (Sri

Gopal Potty for instance) in the list that we need a structure for discussion.

Otherwise it gets chaotic, and difficult to digest multi-pronged inputs.

However to be fair and include other scholar's input as well, I suggest we do

the following:

 

Let one person (say Balaji) take a particular topic (say #1) in his list and

outline his thoughts. Let other pundits also review and suggest their inputs.

Collectively, this should represent the VMS view of dvaita philosophy. Then let

Sri Mani or other SriVaishnava pundits can comment on this outlining their

differences or disagreements (with adequate reasoning, pramAna etc). The

discussion can then continue both ways. Let us go topic by topic so that it

does not take a long time.

Dear VishvamAdhvas:

 

In order to compare our great tradition with RAmAnuja's lets

divide them into groupings: DARSHANA (Philosophy) and SAMPRADAYA

(Tradition).

 

I. DARSHANA issues:

 

1. Some PramANa vicAra topics:

 

a) Indeterminate and determinate perception

b) Status of the 4000 Prabandhams of the 12 ALvArs

 

 

2. Some Prameya vicAra issues:

 

a) substance-attribute relationship

b) Nature of God's causal relationship to the Universe

c) DharmabhUtajn~Ana (Attributive Consciousness)

d) Ontological status of Space

e) Ontological status of Time

f) Ontological status of ShrI (MahAlakshmI)

 

 

3. Some SAdhanA and Mukti vicAra issues:

 

a) Doctrine of Prapatti

b) MuktAnandatAratamya (Gradation in the experience of Salvific

Bliss)

 

 

II. Some SAMPRADAAYA Issues:

 

a) Exaltation of GaruDa over HanumAn

b) Non-use of gopIcandana

c) once-in-a lifetime mudrAdhAraNa

 

 

I have listed these so that the opponent also can take note

and be ready to make his own parallel postings on these.

 

I shall summarize both positions on any given topic before I

analyze them.

" I am not the doer, shri Hari is the doer, all the actions that I do are His

worship. Even then, the worship I do is through His grace and not otherwise.

That devotion and the fruits of the actions that come to me are due to His

recurring grace "

If one always practices to do actions with a dedicated spirit to Hari, in this

way, it pleases Vishnu.

Dear Balaji,

 

We should somehow make this topics available to Vishistaadvaita distribution

lists.

I don't know apart from Mr. Mani who else is listening to these discussions

from Vishistaadvaita

side. Mr. Mani any thoughts on this?
