Dear shrI Kadiri:

Thanks for your input. I didn't come up with this issue. It

is brought up by the philosophers of the various schools of

classical thought when arguing about pramANavicAra. Since the

sense-organs are ONE of the sources of knowledge, the

philosophers then entered into a sub-debate about their nature

and function. The issue is given real focus by the Jain

philosopher AnantavIrya in his work " ParIkShAmukhalaghuvRtti " . As

a consequence of this, the philosophers of the other schools

came up with their official views on this issue. Then the

real " fight " started. This how the tradition of doctrine &

debate grew in Indian philosophy.

I also note that the Buddhist view seems best to you perhaps

because of modern scientific reasons.

My whole purpose is to bring these issues back into the

limelight so that we moderns can review these issues from a

fresh perspective and then confirming, denying or debating about

them.

regards,

Hari-vAyu smaraNa
