Guest guest
krishNabhaktas, I asked the question that I had posed here last week, regarding spiritual leaders from other traditions and our attitude towards them, to sri puthige swamiji. I am going to paraphrase his answer giving the gist of his message. He said that we have differences in philosophies between leaders in other tradition like swami vivekAnanda and ramakrishNa. We have to disagree with them on those issues and emphasise the correct way as told by srimadAcharya. At the same time, these spiritual leaders have contributed to the Hindu society at large in different ways. Swami vivekananda revitalized the Hindu society, appealing people to be more service oriented, and to throw off the inertia in our society. They have caused caused materialistic and athiest people to turn towards God, even though we disagree with the path specified by them. So, we can respect and honor the other leaders if they have done work for the betterment for the society and mankind for such a work, while disagreeing with them philosophically. Same principles apply to other spiritual leaders like Saibaba etc. This is the gist of his message which balances the two aspects of this issue very nicely. Any errors in transcription are mine. On those lines, I am giving a link to an excellent article in Hinduism Today on what makes a home and how should family balance spiritual and material lives. This is a non-sectarian article and contains some good points for parents among us. Article is called " Is Your House a Home Or a Hotel Room? " by By Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami at http://www.saivasiddhanta.com/htoday.html satyavantara sangaviralu theertha vetake?..
