Guest guest
Announcement of the VMS Philosophy list. ----------- krishNa bhaktas, VMS volunteers have discussed how to structure the philosophical and other discussions that take place on the VMS list. Two main objectives of the VMS list until now has been: 1. To support the philosophical discussions and increase understanding of philosophical issues among interested members. 2. To have a electronic networking forum for the members where following activities take place: * Announcements about the various religious events organized by VMS chapters, * Discussion about religious education, * Discussion about social issues discussion, * Children's education activities. Until now, both of these objectives have been satisfied by the VMS list. Recently, based on the feedback given by the members, VMS volunteers and Directors have come to the conclusion that these two objectives need two different lists. Some of the members want only objective number 2, where as others want 1 and 2. Philosophical discussions by their nature, will happen in Q & A format with many questions and issues being raised and then being answered. The discussions will happen with high bursts of speed. The atmosphere is one of free wheeling discussions which appear to take on animated tones. Philosophical inquiry coupled with e-communications will result in this format. These discussions will appear to be unstructured and emotional. If people are not following the discussions closely, it will appear to be too much noise and much ado about nothing. In order to support the objectives 1 and 2 successfully, VMS has decided to create a new philosophy list called vms-philosophy . The philosophical discussions will shift to the new list in a couple of days. The current (called VMS main list) will satisfy objective #2 only. Here is the scope and objectives of the two lists: * VMS-philosophy list: * Support the mAdhva philosophy discussions. This list support mainly mAdhva philosophical discussions, occassionally other philosophical traditions may be discussed. * Free wheeling discussions, atmosphere will be very lively and rapid Q & A format. People have more freedom to question others on their understanding and statements on mAdhva philosophy. * This list requires some basic understanding and interest in mAdhva philosophy to follow. * Vishwamadhvasangha list ( also called main VMS list): * Supports announcements of religious events, religious and philosophical education and children's activities of VMS. * Postings are very structured and generally use the format of announcements and educative postings on religious and philosophical issues, dAsa sahitya, Children's education etc. * Postings are easy to follow for a lay person interested in the mAdhva tradition. * Simple Q & A may be allowed on the above topics. More involved discussions will be transferred to the other list. * Periodically simple postings on madhva philosophy in a " lesson " format will be posted by VMS education coordinators and other volunteers. * vms-philosophy list is open for business now. I will give couple of days for members to to the other list. Today and tomorrow being to be sri narahari theertha and sri gopAla dAsaru punya dina respectively it is a good time to start the list. Let us start discussions on the new list from next Sunday 1/30. SUMMARIZING, if one is interested in just the VMS main list( ) as described above and not interested in the philosophy list, you need not do anything. Every thing will be fine. If one is interested in subscribing to the philosophy list, there are couple of ways to : * send empty E-mail to vms-philosophy- . * Go to web page www./community/vms-philosophy. * Contact list administrators at vms-philosophy-owner if you are still having problems. The " cyber gurus " or leaders of learning in the philosophical discussions, sri keshava Rao, sri Hebbar, sri JayakrishNa and sri NAPS Rao will be automatically d as a mark of respect. Others will have to on their own. indIvaradaradaLa nayana mandara dhArin govinda vande...
