gItA sArodhdhAra - 1

 

Dear vishwa mAdhvAs

 

viShNu tIrtharu is one of our revered saints. He is said to be

the amsha of rudra dEvaru. He lead the life of an avadhUta (an

ascetic who has renounced all wordly attachments) and shunned

wordly honours and contacts. His brindavana is in mAdanUru. He

is also known as aDavi AchArya since he chose to spend all his

time in the forest. He has written several scholarly works like

bhAgavata sArOdhdhAra, shOdhashi, chaturdashi, gIta sArodhdhAra

(not to be confused with the book of the same name by pejAwara

swAmiji).

 

The gIta sArodhdhAra (GS) is actually a collection of verses

from the gIta, with only the first and last verses by viShNu

tIrtharu. He did this to facilitate sAdhakas who want to

recite the gIta daily but are unable to do so due to paucity

of time. He has chosen one key verse from each adhyAya (except

the first). No logic has been provided for the selection, but

when read as a whole, the GS provides the gist of the giTa. It

is said that reciting the GS provides the same benefit as

reciting the gIta, and is a sure way of pleasing Lord KriShNa.

 

In order to help members of the VMS family in their sAdhana, we

are planning to publish the GS in this forum. In order to make

it worthwhile, we plan to add notes from 'gIta pratipadArtha'

by His Holiness shrI satyadhyAna tIrtharu.

 

In order to preserve original flavor, we plan to post original

postings in kannada (using baraha format). Later, if time permits

we will provide English translations. And maybe supplement these

with notes from shrimadAchArya's gIta bhAshya and tAtparya, and

rAyaru's gIta vivritti.
