Guest guest
Dear vaiShNavas Our warm greetings on this sacred occasion of madhva navami. Let us rededicate ourselves to the cause of hari, vAyu, guru and pray for their grace and blessings so that our bhakti, gnyAna and vairgya wax over time. Here is the posting for last and final verse in gItAsArodhdhAra. Since this shloka is not from the gIta we once again requested shrI Bannuru Ramachandra Rao to provide the meaning, which he has very kindly and graciously done in English. In addition, in response to the requests received for English versions, he has also started the process of translation. If the List Administrators accord their permission to post the same material once more in English, we will start the postings from this dvAdashi. Madhusudhana BhImasEna Rao Hunsur Sriprasad ---- Explanation of Final shloka (English) ------- shlOka | | 19 | | avadhUta shirOratna JayatirthAryanirmitA muktamAlAnusandhEyA paratattvaparIkshakai:h | | 19 | | Word-by-word meaning: ===================== avadhuta sriroratna = crown jewel of 'avadhutas' JaytirthAryanirmitA= made out by respected Sri Jayatirtha muktamAlA = a garland which is ready to be worn. It may also be interpreted also as a garland worn by Muktas. anusandhEyA = has to be followed with all sincerity paratattva = the principle or the right knowledge of the Lord who is supreme parIkshakai:h = those who examine, that is study the same in depth summary of the above sloka: =========================== This selection of verses from the Gita has been made by respected Sri Jayatirtha, who is the crown jewel of 'avadhUtas'. This set of slokas is like a garland of flowers worn by muktas and to be worn by all those interested in the indepth study of the knowledge of the supreme Lord (that is those who are mentioned in the introductory or mangalacharana sloka). Explanation: ============ The sloka ,in the first instance, praises Sri Jayatirtha (which is the name of Sri Vishnuteertha in his Purvashrama) as the crown jewel of 'avadhutas'. The term 'avadhuta' is applied to one who is not involved in worldly affairs, not even worried about his clothes and food which he manages from whatever he gets without his asking, and is all the time thinking of the supreme Lord. From the fact that Sri Jayatirtha abandoned his family on hearing the song 'mancha bAradu madadi bAralu) he went to the forest to lead a saintly life like an avadhuta and involved himself in teaching and praying to the Lord, we may guess that he could not have praised himself as 'avadhuta shiromani' and used the epithet 'Arya' in the sloka. It is, therefore, possible that this sloka was composed by one of his sishyas and appended to the set of slokas he selected from the Gita. This set of slokas is compared to a garland ready to be worn by 'Jignasus' and could have been worn by the muktas. When one wears a garland, he naturally enjoys the fragrance of the flowers. In this case, the garland is of slokas from different chapters of the Gita and it can be compared to a garland of different flowers like jasmine, champak, rose etc.. while each gives a fragrance of its own, when taken together it is an essence of all fragrances and gives pleasure to the mind. In this case the combination of these slokas combines the essentials of the whole Gita Shastra. The sloka ''ananyAschintayantomAm yE jana:h paryupasatE tEshAm nityAbhiyuktAnam yOgakshemam vahAmyaham " is like a pendant of flowers at the centre of the garland .It is the phrase 'ananyAschintayantO mAm' that is reflected in the sloka ' santatam chintayEanantam antakalE viseshata:h' in the Dvadasha stotra. We should wear this garland of 'Gitasaroddhara' and always be involved in the stuti of Sri Hari: 'ya:h sarvaguna sampUrna:h sarvadoshavivarjita:h prIyatAmpritayEvalam VishnurmEparam:h suhrut'(khila Vayustuti) SRI KRISHNARPANAMASTU
