Guest guest
Continued.... Sri Prabhanacharya is a well known writer some of whose books are found in many Madhva families. His translation of Sumadhva Vijaya is an easily readable biography of Srimadanandatirtha Bhagavatpadacharya and the foot notes given are very useful as they are based on authentic vyakhyanas of SumadhvaVijaya.(There are also translations of Sumadhva Vijaya by other Pabdits like Sri Bhima Bhat, and Narasimha murthi.) Prabhanacharya's another popular work is SadachatraVinoda'. His translation of Jayatirtha's 'Padyamala' is one of the best books for those who want to learn 'Devara puja' in the traditional way. He has his own publication called 'Aitareya Prakashana'. (Late)Davanagere Bhima Rao is really a 'Madhva Bhushana' because of the yoemen service he did for the Madhva community and Dvaita literature. An advocate by profession, spent much of his time in writing, amd propasgation of Madhva philosophy. He translated such large works as Vadiraja's Yukti mallika' and an upa-purana known as 'Vishnu rahasya' which contains a fund of philosophic material to be known by Vaishnavas. His translation of " Pratah sankalpa gadya " is superb. He has edited works like 'Vaikunta varnane'and 'Gunda kriye' of Vadiraja weth explanations and also written a few books on his own. Bannanje Govindacharya is well known for his lectures and writings as well. He is known to all Kannadigas through his Bhagavadgita articles and 'Bhimasena' in 'Taranga'.His translations of 'Talavakara ' and other Upanishads are in a style of his own. He has translated Sri Madhvacharya's 'Tantrasara sangraha' which is very useful. (Another translation of thiswork is by Sanuru Bhima Bhat,a famous Pandit). SDri P.Vishnu Tirtha who died last year at a ripe age has translated Sri HariVayustuti with detailed explanations. The fact that the book runs into four volumes, with only 'Nakhastuti' covered in one volume,is enough proof of the profoundity of the scholarship of this writer who lived a simple life and remained a bachelor through out his life like Bhishma. He has written other books including an exhaustive one on 'Purusha sukta'. Sri D.Prahladacharya is a person who has had many regognitions and honours but still easily approachable by any body when it comes to Dvaita philosophy. His translation of Sri Raghavendra swami's 'Tantra Dipika',an independent work of Sri Raghavendra Swami,is a very useful book for the study of Brahma sutras. I have to rest my pen here as it is impossible to cover all writers of Dvaita in an article of a small magnitude and I also feel that I am not knowledgeable enough to cover many other writers. I will only mention a few other names like Sanuru Bhima Bhat,Santebidanuru Bhimasenacharya,ChimanaHalli Raghunatha chrya, Holavanahalli Seshacharya,Magadi Ranganatha Charya,H.K.Ranganathacharya(who took sanyas and is known as Prajnananidhitirtha,Huyilugola Narayana Rao,Ha.Ra.Purohit, Hayavadana puranic, Goudagere Venkata Ramanacharya ,Hanumeshacharya Ganguli,Baligaru Srinivasacharya and his son Ruchiracharya (ETc.),to show that this is only a sketch and what is mentioned here is hardly anything to be called representative. I have practically not touched upon works relating to 'Haridasa Sahitya', for which I apologise, and which I leave for my friends like C.R. Madhusudan and others to attempt. Apart from this is a vast amount of Dvaita literature in Kannada in the form of several monthlies/ periodicals like 'Subodha', 'Sadbodha chandrike' published in the early years of this century and 'Tattvavada','Tattva chadrika','Sri Sudha' and others being published today. Several serial articles appearing in these magazines are worth being printed and published. I wish to close this article with respectful pranams to my guru (late)Sri U.B.Sripada Rao ,who, inspite of having had a heart attack, produced a book on the 'Panchamithyatva Khandana' in Nyayamrita which I present to the reading world as his beloved Sishya. " LASATU SRIMADANANDA TIRTHENDURNO HRIDAMBARE YADVACHASCHANDRIKASVANTA SANTAPAM VINIKRINTATI " May this be my seva to SrimadanandatirthaBhagavatpadacharya on this day of Madhvanavami.
