Guest guest
Dear Sri Navaratna Murthy, In as much you have got it from a guru like Dheerendrachar, what you are doing must be correct. I also feel it is in order.Srinivasan has already mentioned that there re varitions in detailed procedures. In such cases it isdesirable o follow what we have leatrnt fromour gurus or elders in the family. Regading the other questions, there is no mention of the subject in Krishnamrita maharnava or Padyamala(this is already stated by Srinivasans).. So I am writing to you as per my understanding. In case you or anybody finds a mistake in this,I am preparedto correct myself. Ganesha: If we offer naivedya to Ganesha on Ganesha festival or any other day with the concept that it is offered to the devata, it has to bediscarded. But,in the procedure followed by some elders ,Ganesha is worshipped with the concept that the Puja is done to Sri Hari in the form " vishvmbhara murthi " by placing along with the G,image a saligrama(in front of it). The puja is done by invoking this form of the Lord. In such case, the naivedya is offered to the Lord in that form and is taken. But often it is the case that on that day,we have the concpt that the puja and naivedya are to Ganesha(who is a devata, son ofShiva Lord(saligrama rupa). Hastodaka to any gurus done at home is discarded. But,when we go to mutt(like R.mutt),in case hastodaka is served as per the practice of the mutt,it should betaken. Laxmi naivedya on varamahalaxmi or any other day is taken.(it is offered to Laxmi after offering toHari). On Ananata Chaturthi,I understand that the Yamuna kalasa is placed because Yudhistira did the Puja to Ananthapadmanbha on the banks of Yamuna. In such case, the deity invoked is the 'abhimani devata' of the Yamuna river, and so becomes 'Anyadevata naivedya'. Iam not sure about this. In general, the concept should be that only the naivedya to Sri Hari is only to be taken, exceptions being that offered to Laxmi and Pranadevaru.
