Guest guest
Sri Gururajo Vijayate One of the few books by a non-Indian writer on Tatvavada is " Vadiraja's refutation of Sankara's non-dulalism: Clearing the way for Theism - A translation of Vadiraja's Nyayaratnavali with a commentary by the translator " by Dr. L Stafford Betty. This book (on " The jewel necklace of logical arguments " ) has a foreword by Dr. BNK Sharma, in which he notes " His [sri Vadiraja's] Nyayaratnavali is more or less a miniature edition of his own metrical magnum opus the Yuktimallika " . In the translation notes at the beginning of the book, Dr. Betty notes " Finally I should prepare the reader for a disappointment. Most of Vadiraja's brilliant word-play is lost in the translation... We can 'acquit ourselves' of the task of translation, but we are a long way from 'mastering' such a task. " For my part however, I have found the book (those few pages I actually read) to be delightful for the sheer imagination and wit of the original author, which, but for the tranlation I would never have known.
