Guest guest
Vishwa Madhva Sangha - Michigan Branch Dear Sri Krishna Bhakthas, Vishwa Madhva Sangha (VMS) - Michigan had a wonderful year of activities for the year 2000. We are planning more programs for the year 2001 and we hope you will all join us in making those programs a great success. For the year 2001, Acharya Sri Gopeenatha Galagali has graciously agreed to deliver lectures on Srimad Bhagavatha, a great epic written by Sri Vedavyasa himself. It's a dream for many of us to listen to lectures on Srimad Bhagavatha and with the grace of lord Sri Hari and Vayu it's going to happen in the year 2001. We really would like you to participate and also invite your friends if they are interested in listening to these lectures. We have arranged these lectures to coincide with other functions such as Sri Madhva Navami, Sri Narasimha Jayanthi etc… to enable every one to participate. In addition, we have also planned to conduct Sri Purandara Dasa's Aradhana and have planned to organize a Carnatic Classical concert by Sri T.V. Gopalakrishnan (teacher of Sri Vidyabushana). The following are the programs for the year 2001 and we would like you to mark these on your calendars. 2/11/2001 - Sunday, Sri Madhva Navami (Start of Lectures on Srimad Bhagavatha) 3/11/2001 - Sunday, Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhana - Concert by T.V. For details of the programs, please visit the VMS - Michigan website at members.nbci.com/vms_mi or www.shortcut.to/vms_mi . The details and the map to the place will be posted there 3-4 weeks prior to a program. We will make arrangements for hosting out-of-town guests. Please let us know a week early if you are planning to come. We really love to have you here for these aradhanas. We Need Your Support VMS Michigan request you to take part in these functions and support the organization. In addition to these functions, VMS Michigan will also support many charities in India, in a small way, to foster good deeds by all of us. For details on objectives of VMS, please check our website. For the year 2001, we are planning to: support two students at Poorna Pragnya Vidyapeeta in Bangalore; support Go-Samrakshana Kendra in Hoovinakere; support a couple of Orphanges; and support a literary work in Sri Madhva Philosophy. If you know of a charity that we should support, please let us know. In addition to becoming members of VMS Michigan, we appreciate if you could sponsor a program. There are a few slots open for sponsoring a program. We need sponsors for Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhana and also for Sri Bhagavatha Mangala. If you are interested or have questions, please let us know. Sponsoring a program means, bringing paper products for a function (for lunch) and items for pooja or paying for Sambhavane (Dakshina) to Speakers. What Did We Do Last Year For the year 2000, VMS Michigan supported two students at Poorna Pragnya Vidyapeeta in Bangalore. We sent money to Sri Krishna Sevashrama in Bangalore, a charitable hospital run by Sri Pejavara Matha seer Sri Vishvesha Theertha Swamiji. We sent money to Go-Samrakshana Kendra in Hoovinakere, an organization that looks after aged cows (thus saving them from slaughtering) run by Sri Sode Matha. We also sent money to Sri Balagaru Matha in Shimoga, Karnataka to help rebuild Sri Narasimha Temple in the Matha. We thank all the VMS Michigan members for help in making these donations. Based on the feedback we got from Swamijis of repspective charities, all these funds were put to good use and all of you can be proud of taking part in such good deeds. VMS Michigan Website was opened in September, with a wonderful work from Sri Gopalakrishna Varna. You really have to visit the site to experience the beauty of the site. It's a marvellous work and we are extremely thankful to Sri Varna and Acharya Sri Gopeenatha Galagali for making it so. VMS Michigan started off the year 2000 with a full day of activity in February with Sri Madhva Navami in the morning and Sri Purandara Dasara Aradhana in the evening. The whole day was filled with activities ranging from Parayana, Lectures, Bhajans, Instrumental Music, Dances, and Classical Singing. In the morning, the lecture was on Works of Sri Madhvacharya and in the evening, the lecture was on Contributions of Sri Purandara Dasa to society. Over 125 people participated in the activity. In March, we celebrated Sri Vyasaraja and Sri Vadiraja Aradhanas. The program started with Parayana, Devara Pooja, Lecture, and Bhajans. The lecture was on life of Sri Vyasaraja Theertha. The function was largely attended. In July, we celebrated Sri Jayatheertha Aradhana. Again, the program started with Parayana, Lecture, and Bhajans. The lecture was on life and works of Sri Jayatheertha. Over 100 people attended the function. In September, we celebrated Sri Raghavendra Theertha Aradhana. The program started with Parayana, group chanting of Sri Raghavendra Stotra, Program by Kids, Lecture, and Bhajans. The lecture was on works of Sri Raghavendra Theertha. Over 125 people attended the function. We thank Acharya Sri Gopeenatha Galagali for exceptional lectures in the Aradhanas. He also led the parayana in every Aradhana. Without him we could not have done these Aradhanas. We thank our Bhajan group led by Smt. Sandhya Prasanna and Smt. Shobha Maddur. We also thank all the singers, dancers, and kids for participating in various devotional activities. We also thank all the sponsors Lakshmi and Krishna Prasad, Raji and Murthy, Jayashree and Madhusudan, Nalini and Srinivasa Bhat (also for hosting Sri Vyasaraja and Sri Vadiraja Aradhana), Chitra and Ram, Pankaja and Nagaraja Murthy, Shobha and Suresh Maddur, Sandhya and Raghu Rao, LN Sastry and Padma Sastry, Geetha and Muralidhar. Finally, our hearts go out to all the volunteers for their efforts in decorating, setting up, cleaning up, and most importantly getting food for every one. All these people have done Nishkaama Sadhana towards Sri Hari and Sri Vayu. We pray God to give them more strength and inclination to help us during the upcoming year. If you are interested in helping us out in any of these activities, please let us know. Thanks VMS Michigan
