Guest guest
Dear B. Gopalakrishna, Your query regarding Earthquakes is thought- provoking. Here are my comments: Earthquakes did take place frequently. But our ancestors who believed more in Apara did not think of recording them. However, there are some indications. 1) As a rational thinker, I feel that Sitadevi collapsed at the stroke of an earthquake. We the created a myth according to which, Mother-earth took her away and vanished. In this connection, it may be noted that at the time of crucification of Jesus the earth trembled. 2) In an inscription of Nelamangala in 1528 A.D. there is mention of possible earthquake in the phrase " BHOOMI NADUGITU " . 3) In 1924 there was a mild earthquake around Bangalore-Mysore. One Haridasa namely " DAASARA LAXMINARYANA " (SHRIKANTA) has composed a song: " Eke naduguve Taaye Bhukanteye … " The full text will appear soon in Kannada Prabha. I reiterate that many events and aspects which were mundane in their opinion were considered not worth recording. But people must have risen to the occasion although they attributed it to God's Anger. Mother sita came from earth and she went back to earth. Would you think the earth opened up just to take one person ? please stay away from our holy scriptures !
